My Response To Despierta America

Decent Essays
It was 7:00am I was getting myself some breakfast when all of a sudden it started raining, so I decided to check the weather. I changed it to "Despierta America" and they were saying that there was a hurricane near my town and that we should take cover and stay safe. I didn't put much thought into it, until my dad called me an hour later telling me to take care of myself.
My thoughts rushed all over the place. What if this was the end? What if I could never see my friends and family again? So many "What if"s. I tried my best to keep a positive outlook, but that was kind of hard considering the situation. I've never truly experienced a hurricane, or any enormous natural disaster for that matter, so it was pretty common to be freaking out.

My Summary of “Florida’s Farmers Look At Irma’s Damage: ‘Probably The Worst We’ve Seen’” In “Florida’s Farmers Look At Irma’s Damage: ‘ Probably The Worst We’ve Seen’”, Dan Charles explains the effects of Irma on Florida’s agriculture. To emphasise his points, Charles provides readers with a great deal of statistics and details. For example, he notes how over half of the citrus crop, a quarter of the sugar crop, and a tenth of vegetables were lost along with supplies necessary to grow these crops. In addition, he notes how such losses will also affect those immigrant workers during harvest season by reducing job opportunities and housing.…

For hurricane Irma, I had to evacuate Cape Canaveral and go to my father's house in Ocala. I am very thankful I did because a tornado swept pass on the street across from mine, and many of my neighbors lost their roofs completely. My house had roof damage in the room I use as my art studio. There were some leaks which messed up some artworks in progress. I am thankful though that it is all the damage and not anything more because I know a lot of people went through a lot worse.…

I am writing to tell you a little about how I made it through the hurricane. The Friday that hurricane Harvey made landfall I was having my employees pick machines off the floors and put tools up so as not to get any important equipment wet. Along with keeping looters from being able to break in and take tools with ease. Following this I sent my employees home early so they could get things in their own personal lives in order. On Saturday, I thoroughly cleaned my house and began to cook.…

My hurricane experience was frustrating. Irma's arrival resulted in a mass power outage that made me realize how dependent we, as a society, are on electricity. Blessings we take for granted like light, air conditioning, a working stove, a refrigerator, cable, internet, charged phones, and other appliances were all made useless by the storm. My neighbors and some family members began to panic and complain. My family had to make use of battery powered devices and wood for cooking.…
