Social Norms Analysis

In every society there are rules and guidelines needed to operate properly. Without these expectations, groups of the society wouldn’t know how to act when an encounter with others or know how to behave. These are called norms. Norms are social expectations that guide behavior. Norms explain why people do what they do in given situations. When these norms are broken they are often met with sanctions. Sanctions are the reactions people receive when breaking a norm, they can either be expressions of approval or of disapproval. Depending on whether someone broke a folkway norm or a more norm the level of sanction differs. Folkways are norms that are not strictly enforced. As we were all sitting their enjoying our icecream I noticed a kady outside with headphones on and was riding a bike. At first I didn’t think anything of it until she started dancing while still on her bike. The first thing I did was got my phone , opened up my snapchat app and started recoding. The lady noticed that I had my phone out recording her and she seemed to love the attention she was getting so she began to blow kisses. The reaction me and my friends got was humor we found that to be the funniest thing ever. As for families that were there was as well were disturbed by her dancing because she was literally grinding on her bike. They kept telling their kids to not pay attention and look the other way they even moved them so that only their backs were facing the window. The lady was dancing for about ten minutes until the owner came outside and asked her to leave so the lady did. About three minutes have passed and she was back doing the same thing but this time she was off her bike and blowing even more kisses. The owner got extremely mad saying that she doesn’t want this at her icecream place so she went outside and demanded her to leave and that she already the called the cops to come and control her. The lady finally decided to leave rosemary’s. I felt like she committed a public
