Reflective Essay: The Benefits Of Playing Football

In writing any paper I do my best to adhere to the rules and guidelines given to me in order to write the assignment as well as I can. The reason I choose to say my research paper is not exemplary is because there is always room for improvement, but I do believe my research essay over whether or not the benefits of playing football outweigh the risks is a successful paper. In my opinion my research paper felt like it stayed on topic and was easy for my audience to read, comprehend, and hopefully urge them to form their own opinion. My research paper is successful because it fulfills the course outcome requirements, analyzes my subject while supporting it with evidence, but may lack in other areas such as organization and logic. The course outcome requirements for Composition 2 expect a student to be able to use their writing skills appropriately, write a well written essay, and conduct a research paper all of which have been fulfilled in my research essay. The use of credible scholarly sources as support for my main claim is one of the requirements in having a successful paper. I …show more content…
I only have a certain amount of knowledge and I most likely don’t catch all of the errors I might have made throughout my research paper. However, with the knowledge that I do have it is clear to me that I have written a successful paper. My writing skills have drastically improved since Composition one allowing me to fulfill the requirements for the research paper to the best of my abilities. I used scholarly credible sources that provided evidence for my persuasive thesis statement, conducted a college-level research essay, and integrated quotations, paraphrases, and summaries all while being cited correctly according to MLA guidelines. A research paper was given as assignment in my English class. This research activity weights a good percentage of the final grade. Although I have done research papers for previous classes, this project has become special for me because I’m trying to demonstrate to myself how well prepared I am, and also it’s the opportunity to show the abilities attained in previous courses during my time in BCC. Certainly I have to admit that due to all information that I have to compile, this research activity has become like a nightmare for me, but I will put all my effort to contradictorilymake of this paper one of the best papers I ever made. I chose the topic “Have Government actions made New York City safer after 9/11?…

Throughout this semester, we have written two major papers that really display my capabilities as a writer. By evaluating these two pieces with the learning outcomes established at the beginning of this semester, outcomes 1, 2, and 3 are most applicable when gauging my progress in this course. Learning outcome 1 is, "Demonstrate academic research and writing skills in essays and projects to participate in a scholarly conversation" Learning outcome 2 is, "Demonstrate critical reading through a knowledge of the forms and functions of a variety of texts" Learning Outcome 3 is, "Follow a research writing process that includes developing a topic, locating and evaluating sources (including peer-reviewed), composing in response to those sources, and revising and reflecting on that process;" Each of these outcomes I believe I have met by using them as goals when writing in and out of class. In my essay "Survivors and their Children: Examining the Holocaust's Multigenerational Effects" I discuss the impact the Holocaust has on those who survived it and on their children.…

Before beginning this course, I knew that I lacked confidence within my writing. People say that you are your own worst critique, and I fully agree with that statement. When I first started English 1302, the little confidence that I had significantly plummeted since my writing seemed childish compared to other students.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

I was always told that an essay is developed around a thesis statement and resources that support my opinions about a prompt. I realized that there was more to an essay when I came across scholarly writing, which is writing on a higher level, usually one which we come across during college. It meets high standards of communication with outlines, tone, deductive reasoning, format, and way of analytical approach. It has a consistent way of delivering thoughts, shaping arguments, and narrowing down the subject to explain the main idea. With scholarly writing, students must express their thoughts through thesis statements, and develop an argument with their own thinking, not minding to be objective to clear any chance of bias.…
