Reflective Essay On Managing Conflict

Growing up I have had the pleasure of living with people that have different social styles. My mom is clearly amiable, my sister an expressive, my dad is a driver and I am analytic. This obviously created some social stress growing up. It is not that we did not love one another, but it was that often found our differences resulted in a division. However, I would never change any of it because I believe it is the reason we have grown so close together. Once we were able to learn how different we are, we were able to see how our interactions needed to change. I began to learn how to communicate with my sister, my mom and dad. We will chose to argue and fight with one another because we perceive the world differently than one another. We do this instead of deciding to work through our differences. Often I have noticed how quickly our relationships break down and arguments arise over what could have been easily avoided. Conflict management is one of the most useful skills that can be developed and will help us overcome many future problems. This is a skill I began to develop with my family because consistently our social styles creating conflict that needed to be resolved. One of the first steps in managing a conflict is learning how to confront another person or party. The book provides some useful insight on what is necessary to confront a person, the first step is pick the right plan.
