Critical Reflection Journal 1 When I think of the experiences I have encountered here at Providence Place, various mental health conditions come to mind. However, from first hand experience, the most prevalent disorder I have been exposed to, in this short amount of time would be Dementia. My one resident, C.G, who specifically presented with this condition, is an 87-year-old male who was recently registered at Providence Place. It was during our first encounter, when I began to notice the symptoms of his Dementia. For instance, when we began to engage in a game of crib and it was his turn to deal, I glanced over at him…
GOALS My goal is to gain 3 pounds of lean mass by the end of next month. As my metabolism is so high, I have to increase my calorie intake drastically. I will try to train at least 3 days per week to maintain a good body composition.…
The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…
Instructor Berry, I have submitted all of my discussion posts and my weekly reflection journals. I completed Wk1 Assignment 1, Wk 2 Assignment 1, Wk 3 Assignment 1 and Wk 4 Assignment 1. I was unable to complete Wk 5 Assignment 1. The car would not start. My cell phone was dead; I had to wave down a stranger to call a tow truck.…
I am a creative writer. Rules in writing make me feel paralyzed. I have some anxiety because of lesson 3. I understand the principles being discussed. I’m trying to avoid nominalization, while writing this post.…
This past week was very similar to the on one previous do to the fact that my job revolves around the dispensing of patients immunization records. Upon getting a better feel for the Illinois Department of Public Health I started to understand some of the misconceptions that the public have the I-Care Program. A lot of people call assuming that I-Care is some mega database that has every shot administered to an individual is somehow stored in this I-CARE database, this is definitely not the case. What most do not know nor understand is that medical doctors were no obligated to insert one’s shots into I-Care until 2010. Therefore most individuals born prior to the mid 80’s chances are slim in regards to us having their immunization record on…
Writing Journal (Morning Pages) I chose morning pages as one of my three pieces for Seasaw because it was something that I had to do at least three times a week for several weeks and it made me appreciate how important writing is. I haven’t written in a journal in such a long time since everything I need to write down is through my computer, phone, or if I write something on the board in class. This is a great strategy to bring into the classroom because it allows students to write about anything they want, with no rules! This helped me teach writing in my 3rd grade class because I had students starting to write in the morning versus the afternoon (mainly because I had to do it) and they were able to write about anything that they wanted. Students seemed to like this idea because they didn’t have to write on a particular topic, like they were used to, but others had no clue what to write about so I had to write suggestions on the board that students could use as a guide.…
Reflective Journal: Goal Setting + Art and Science of Nursing The nursing profession is made of two important components, both science and art. The science part of nursing is more apparent, especially when one first begins their profession as a nurse. This is because the science of nursing is what a nurse must know in order to perform interventions correctly.…
Scholarly research differs from others simply because it allows one to acquire knowledge through progression. Scholarly research is imperative to doctoral learners due to the fact we must be able to process information in way that is different from other types of research. In large part I think our cognitive skills are developed as result of the transition that occurs during the research process. I truly believe that we progress through each level of Bloom’s taxonomy: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, and synthesis before we reach evaluation. Evaluation in my opinion helps us to develop our metacognitive skills so that we may discern or “make judgments about issues, resolving disparities or disagreements” that we may find…
During the nine week course, I have been motivated to lose weight. By doing weekly logs, I was accountable for my actions. By setting a goal and then surpassing that goal, has inspired me to continue on my new lifestyle and better food choices. Reading labels when shopping has played a significant role in reaching my goals.…
Clinical Journal: Week Eight Today’s clinical was very busy. I started the morning with observing Lin, while she performed her handover and conducted her initial rounds on her patients. Later that morning, I assisted Halima with caring for her patient then began my research for the medications that I had to administer. In the afternoon, I administered medication.…
The behavior I tried to increase was journaling. My precise goal was to write more throughout the whole week than I usually do. In doing so, I would ultimately benefit by becoming more mindful and achieving emotional intelligence. I wanted to increase the amount of times I journaled because I saw an increase in bad behavior, such as irritation, anger, along with restlessness. I was very motivated to make this change because I enjoy self-reflecting and I was very eager to see a difference.…
