My Reflective Essay In AP Language

Improved Essays
Third advisory always proves challenging for me. This year, however, I remained on task throughout each quarter, so I saw third as a chance to keep that streak up. Sadly, I did not fully apply myself and excel to my best ability, specifically in AP Language. Usually around the end of the quarter, I have a strong B. As of right now, I have a noticeably weaker C+, which is not good in my opinion. Also, my attendance in third quarter was low, as I was absent many times for injuries and appointments almost every week. That is not an excuse, however, for failing to apply myself throughout the whole third advisory. In comparison to other advisories, I did not complete too much work. For example, I received a seven out of nine on a DBQ and my …show more content…
For example, at the beginning of this quarter, I did not know how to properly introduce the weakness of an argument into my papers. After fully going over it, I mastered the art of writing a rhetorical analysis, and have not received anything under an eight on recent papers. Also, I was a horrible DBQ writer when we first began writing DBQs in this course. After doing it many more times, I have noticed remarkable growth in my DBQ grades. Moreover, I can successfully finish a timed essay or multiple choice examination without stress. This quarter superbly curbed my writing skills and prepared me the most for the upcoming exam. Next quarter, I want to build off skills acquired in this advisory to be successful in the AP Exam. Third quarter proved challenging but overall, I did okay. Although I am disappointed in myself for not completing work to my best ability, I am proud that I continue to effectively apply skills and contribute in class. This quarter taught me to not get cocky and assume that good grades will just come to me; I need to continue to work hard towards the grades I desire. With a week left in the quarter, I hope my last few grades are my best. Also, I want to learn from my mistakes and do better in the upcoming and final quarter of my junior

The first day of English 101 I was unsure what to expect. As a running start student, college was foreign and daunting. Over the quarter, this definitely changed as I became more comfortable with the college environment and assignments. My worries for this class quickly dissipated over the first week or so once I knew it wasn’t that drastic a change. After receiving the assignment calendar, I felt ready for the classwork.…

As I began the second advisory, I started off very strong and ahead of the game. I was doing all my work and completing what I needed to receive a good grade. This was a result of me trying to keep up with my goals for the upcoming advisory too. I had left on with a B- last advisory and now that has dropped significantly. I am completely disappointed with my grade because these are not the grades I receive on a regular basis in school.…

On the first day of school, I remember walking into class and seeing all of the new people in my class. I also remember meeting all of my new teachers. It was the first day of my second year in Tomball ISD. I walked into my second period, Texas History, with a Mrs. Brough. At first glance, Mrs. Brough seemed to be a little too excited and the state of her desk with several coffee mugs seemed suspicious. It was in this unorganized classroom and with this giddy teacher that I found my love of history. Mrs. Brough was a short and stout woman who never stopped smiling.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…
