Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…
There are many things that I hope we get to cover during this course. One of the main things I wish to get out of this class is that I become a more experienced writer. Although, I know I'm not the…
In the end, this class has helped me develop as a writer through the different activities we did and helped me to notice what I can improve upon in the…
My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…
This course has helped me figure a lot of my strengths as a writer. I learned that I have good ideas and can be a good writer when a topic interest me. I have also learned that my grades usually reflect on how well I followed the criteria of an assignment. I realize that I have unique points of views on certain topics and often like to give my own thoughts and explanations about a topic. I also know how to be straight to the point with whatever message I try to convey.…
For some of us writing might not be as easy as for others. To me writing could be a long process of different stages that might get difficult with time. My writing process is very complicated and confusing but it could be improved by rereading and revising my drafts. I’ve never being a writing person, meaning writing process can get really difficult for me and it even deals with a lot of thinking. I like to think of my writing process as a test because I like to do better every time and just like a test I like to take my time.…
Besides writing this course aided in improving my discussion techniques by having to devise comprehensive analysis during class and engage in the conversations. Before this class I rarely spoke in lectures but the environment made me feel comfortable enough to do so which was one of the most beneficial aspects of the course for myself. This course identifies the weakness and strength of the students writing skills giving them constructed feedback so they may be able to improve those…
Prewriting is the beginning stage of the writing process, and there are some things I like to do before I am prepared to write the opening statement. The best way I start is by asking myself the question of, what should I be writing about? Figuring out what is the topic or theme of what I am writing about is one of them. If I choose something that moves you in some way, my writing is more likely to be interesting to the reader. So, “Why would I want to write about it?”…
I would begin an essay by brainstorming like in project one the effective moments in my life, project two the obvious things I see in the photo, and project four the topic of my choice. I would write out everything I need for the certain essay and every idea that could be some way connected to my writing process. I would complete bullet points of my idea without putting them in complete sentences. In addition, while making bullets I think about whom am I delivering this paper to or how would my audience react to my writing and if they find it meaningful. After all ideas and details are put down onto paper; I will continue to form sentences making a response to my bullets, eventually typing my body paragraph out trying to solve that “so what…
My Writing Process My process of writing has been quite simple. I write in the same place with the same writing tools. It works for me and I wouldn’t do it any other way.…
To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…
At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
I understand the importance of proof reading, researching, editing and composing my writing to create a higher quality than before I commenced this course. Effective writing is being aware of the value of taking an audience into consideration, as a writer I have learnt the importance of staying on target with your chosen audience. I found once I became personally motivated to write and pushed all doubts aside the words began to flow onto the paper. “Whatever the teaching, the writers are on their own, drawing on their experience of life, of language and of story to make meaning. Writing their story is an act of self-expression and self-validation.…
Not focusing so much on the writing, helped me to really release my thoughts down on paper because I was worried more about the structure, organization, and proper formatting. I have accomplished a lot over this course I once believed to be unattainable. With my newfound knowledge and experiences…
The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
