Improved Essays
As I reflect on my own perspectives of education, I feel like my experiences as helped me evolve my understanding and thoughts about teaching in a multitude of ways. Not only have I journeyed through my own experiences in the private school system, to the public system, and then onto University, but I have also had the opportunity to be a valued member in the within the school community as an Educational Assistant (EA). This opportunity has helped me gain insight into many different functions of a classroom and, most importantly, to be inspired by the diversity of children. These children have shown me so many different aspects to education and have challenged me to maximize my abilities as an educator.

I found this difficult, but I quickly learned that I had to be creative and willing to try different strategies until one connected with Allen. Somedays strategies work and on other days I had to start from zero. However, I learned that Allen functioned well on simple, step by step instructions for most tasks, and he needed to be involved in the problem solving and decisions that influenced him. It took months to understand the scope of what Allen needed and every day was a challenge, but the more I worked with him and was persistent about getting to know him, I began to understand him and his needs better. Allen required us to educate him as a whole student, which to me means that we develop an educational environment that provides safety, engagement, support, growth and the opportunity to be successful. For Allen, we had to find creative ways to invite him into this world of education that fit him and his capabilities. We needed to build a system that engaged him and allowed him to demonstrate his

Ideal Educational Experience Cheryl D. Michel Brandman University Educational Experience Teaching Math to Children with Disabilities I chose to write this paper on an actual teaching experience that I was recently afforded the opportunity to be a part of. Over the recent summer vacation in lieu of teaching students at my usual place of employment, I decided to seek an opportunity where I could offer my teaching/tutoring skills as a volunteer. I thought that since I would be offering free services, many schools would willingly take advantage of the opportunity, several of the schools offering extended after school resources were excited to hear of my offer. I received an opportunity to work in an elementary school…

I sat in amazement: amazed at the fact that I developed such a strong rapport with the most feared teacher on campus; amazed that I had not missed one day of the class; amazed that I had developed a love for education and yearning to absorb more knowledge to share with so many. Instilled within me was a passion for education—something that I strive to do for all the lives that I touch. I believe that an educator is to be caring, competent, effective and so much more. Additionally, I believe the goal of education is to create confident, self-actualized, independent thinkers and lifelong learners, with the basic skills necessary to become productive members of society.…

It is my belief that education in America today should include more collaboration and working in groups so that each child is an equal participant where their thoughts and questions valued. Teachers should not be the primary givers of knowledge, but provide learning opportunities and guide children as they learn by asking questions and then letting them find answers by conducting their own investigations. (“What is the Reggio Emilia Approach?,” 2016). ). They should also use a balance of teaching strategies and learning opportunities that are child centered and responsive to student’s needs and interests (Freeman, Decker, and Decker, 2013). School environments should be supplied with many interesting types of materials that inspire children…

My philosophy of education is still is a state of flux, it is still evolving. The one constant that remains after careful review of what I have learned in this course, is for instructors and administrators to keep learning to teach. Teachers, administrators, and parents need to keep learning new skills to be successful advisors to children. A teacher who stops learning can grow complacent. Teachers who show up but are not clued in to what is happening lose the ability to get information to students.…

Thus far in the elementary education program at Shepherd University has been a delightful learning experience. I’ve had several encounters with a variety of different teachers all of which have given me the opportunity to observe and/or engage in their classroom. Each classroom has given me the chance to see different strategies, classroom management and organization skills, as well as the incorporation of technology. It seems at first as if the days merge together, mostly being the same as the last. However, when I reflect back every day in every classroom I’ve been in has offered something new.…

From an early age I have been exposed to the benefits and triumphs available to someone who works as an educator. Coming from a family where both my parents were involved in Education has had a substantial impact on my career choices. My mother has been a Special Education Teacher, and my father an Educational Audiologist, for more than 30 years. I can remember walking over to mom’s classroom after most days in junior high and being enlisted to help out in some varying degree. Whether it was organizing materials, making copies, or occasionally helping a student with an assignment, I enjoyed being part of the atmosphere that occurred in those short few minutes before the students were dismissed for the day.…

As each student walks out of my classroom and I begin getting ready for the next class I continue to learn and become a better teacher for my students. At the end of the day I might worry about the purpose of schooling, diversity in the classroom, the physical environment and atmosphere, classroom management, communication with parents, curriculum planning, instructional strategies, and assessments. Balancing all of these different aspects is what matters. As teachers we cannot get caught up in classroom management or environment, but we need a balance that allows of these different aspects to become a part of our teaching style. Who we are as teachers is what matters and as teachers, we need to embrace what makes us unique teachers because that will allow us to be better…
