I am from Zambia and I did not know about autism until I got to the USA and started learning about it in nursing school. It was interesting to have a one on one with Michael and put together I have learned in the textbook and how people with autism behavior. I learned to be professional at all times with the members because we do not know who is showing out interaction with the members. I also learned not to be offended when they do now respond to my greetings.
My strengths were critical thinking and professionalism. When Marshall called me to help with Michael on Wednesday I was scared, but I held it together and decided to have a helping hand and asked Chandra to be there with me. This experience showed me the power of teamwork and good decision-making. I also demonstrated leadership skills on Tuesday to ask the teacher teach one of my students a memory and have a one on one encounter.
Areas I need to continue to develop are communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Some clients cannot communicate verbally. Therefore, I should be able to still communicate with them because I have noticed I am gravitating towards those that are
