Action Assignment #2: Teacher Interview On the days of September 3rd and September 4th of the year 2016, I interviewed two former teachers of mine from Lincoln Alternative Academy, a high school alternative option in Stillwater, Ok. Aaron Frisby, an English and literature teacher, was interviewed the first day, and Scott Peterman, a Government and social studies teacher, was interviews on the second day. Because of the unique environment of Lincoln, I chose to interview two instructors, in order to gain extra insight into how teachers operate in these alternative education programs. These interviews were conducted in person, at the school, after the regular instruction hours. Both teachers have more than ten years’ worth of experience in teaching…

I went to my dean of curriculum to discuss the possibility of developing my own curriculum for my ELD class. He informed me I could do whatever I felt was necessary and to help my students. I changed the way I approached teaching them the following week. Instead of running the class like a typical ELD class with continual grammar, vocabulary, and writing, I decided to change it to a literature based curriculum incorporating the vocabulary, grammar, and writing into the lessons. My thought was the more the students read, were exposed to the English language, and asked questions for verification of word and phrase meanings, as well as participated in class discussions, thus using their English more frequently, the more exposure they’d have to new English words as well as using and perfecting their…

The rest of the day played out the same way, I felt completely isolated.…

If a supervisor wants to know what was done in class two weeks ago, the teacher only has to refer to that day’s lesson plan. Finally, lesson plans can serve as evidence of a teacher’s professional performance. Teachers are sometimes asked to include lesson plans, along with other materials, as part of a portfolio to support their annual performance evaluation. Nerves, excitement and a lot of Salvos shopping sprees are nipping at my heels at the moment. In a few days, I will begin my first professional experience (prac) for my secondary education degree. The first thing I did was email my professors about the school not letting me observe on the days I was supposed to observe. The first day the school had I.D me, and so I just began to wear my old I.D since they “did not have time” to I.D me anymore. I made my own schedule by asking the teachers if anything special was happening the upcoming weeks. Some of the teachers were good with the inclusion children and so I made an effort to try to go to those specific teachers classrooms so I could view those teachers education environment and learn from them. What I learned from those teachers is that I need to be organized and try my best to accommodate to those student’s needs so these students could feel like they’re getting same the education opportunities as the other students.…
