In my opinion, it was not even the material that I felt I benefited from so greatly from. While it was helpful, the most beneficial pieces of knowledge I gained were the abilities to effectively advocate for myself and truly listen to what others have to say by putting all preconceived ideas of a person out of my head. I may not have showed it in class, but I felt a strong connection with Dr. Good in the sense that he was a relatable, good-hearted, and an influential person that without even trying, made me feel like a respected colleague opposed to just another student. Throughout my high school years I had become accustomed to professors/teachers assuming the classic authoritative instructor role, which is not a bad thing and I do see the merit in that method of teaching, but I had never had an instructor be so open and honest with their students. His open-mindedness when it came to listening to varying opinions held by others is, in essence, what I was what I hoped to develop and what I currently try to emulate in my everyday life now. The ability to advocate for myself, not just in the classroom but society in general, is a skill that I am extremely thankful for and something that I will continue to practice as my schooling career
