The first things we were taught was how to actually listen to music. 1. Pay Attention! 2. Think about what you hear
3. Listen for charges/ important stuff. Hearing is completely different than listening, but throughout this course I have realized that you must do both to understand the complexity of classical music.
The homework assignments we were given seemed like a piece of cake before actually starting them. I have never listened to music like I did to complete the homework. Music never seemed so complex. Although I have always enjoyed listening to music, it became obvious that I wasn’t really listening. This class has increased my vocabulary. Words such as themes and variations are words that I would not have considered relatable to music. Although I knew that beat, rhythm, pitch and tone were involved with music I didn’t understand the factors included with them. Now I can describe a piece of music using the elements of music that I learned in
