My Reflection Of Education: My Philosophy Of Life

Improved Essays
My philosophy of life is to learn as much as possible and to make a difference in everything that I do. The impact I have on my circumstances and surroundings should be as positive and as long-lasting as possible. Life is the acquisition and application of knowledge to better myself and those around me.
How should an individual measure success in their life? I prefer to think of success not in terms of acquiring material items but rather as John Wooden, famed UCLA basketball coach, defined it. He said “success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” The measure of my life is more about what or who I have impacted in a positive way, rather than what I have gained materially.
Positively impacting a life can be as simple as a sincere smile or kind words. A positive attitude and genuine caring for others can dramatically alter how we view our world and those around us. I have taken this approach in both my personal and professional lives. Each person has the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others and the difference-making begins with me.

Teachers do more than teach and their impact extends far beyond the classroom. Educators are role models, mentors, counselors, friends, and leaders. They share knowledge and experiences and they reveal the world to students in ways few others

A 2012 study by The RAND Corporation, a leading research nonprofit, found that “teachers matter more to student achievement than any other aspect of schooling.” Teachers play the role of educating students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. In many instances, teachers provide important role modeling for students who may not have it at home, and school itself provides stability and consistency for high needs students. Teaching is so much more than just giving pointless assignments and incredibly hard tests that make students question, “What’s the point?” It is a career which helps shape students to be the best that they can be and it takes a very special person to do that.…
