I found Clark College on the internet when I Google search the words “EFL/ESL – Vancouver, WA”. Clark College came up as the first website in the listing for my search. I often noticed my students stare back with a blank face when I speak too fast or not enough detail in my lesson for them to understand.
As for my overall practicum experience, all I can say is it is an eye opener. Practicum is an invaluable experience to have if he/she wants to teach EFL abroad. For me, I enjoyed every moment spent in the classroom, helping students to learn English, from simply learning the Alphabets to complex of learning the Present, Past, and Future Tenses. You feel a sense of satisfaction when you see your student’s face lit up when he/she grasp the new material you helped, this affirm why you wanted to be a teacher.
Having completed my practicum, I learned that to be an effective ESL/EFL teacher, one must have plenty of patience with students since they don’t learn at the same rate as some might require more attention than others. It will help to provide as much detail as possible in your lesson plans, and allow enough time for each stages (presentation, practice, and production) for the lesson. And last, attention to detail is the key to be an effective EFL teacher. All that I have mentioned, I will incorporate in my ESL
