Many of my works needed to be revised to state main points in fewer words. After reading other peoples’ works this became more and more clear. This goes hand and hand with my strengths and weaknesses as a writer because being concise and using unnecessary words are a weakness but my ability to use detail and description efficiently is one of my strengths. I think my ability to do so makes my works more interesting to read, but also the reader is able to visualize everything that I am describing. …show more content…

Then I went back through, narrowing in on specifics that I really wanted the reader to understand more clearly through detail and description. I rarely do pre-writing unless I want to make a point but am I afraid that I may forget it later if I do not jot it down. This has been my writing process for many of my papers. Construct a rough draft, add details and description, condense and revise, and then go to the Writing Center. Sometimes I have to repeat more than one step, but in the end I am generally content with the final

I understand what I need to write about, but just do not know how to start it. However, what has helped me with my writing process has been setting up a draft in which I write down what I will talk about in each paragraph. I understand the importance of proof reading, researching, editing and composing my writing to create a higher quality than before I commenced this course. Effective writing is being aware of the value of taking an audience into consideration, as a writer I have learnt the importance of staying on target with your chosen audience. I found once I became personally motivated to write and pushed all doubts aside the words began to flow onto the paper. “Whatever the teaching, the writers are on their own, drawing on their experience of life, of language and of story to make meaning. Writing their story is an act of self-expression and self-validation.…

I enjoyed writing the prompt when we got to describe something normal in a very stretched out and detailed way. It helped me to better use descriptive words. Doing the free write journals also helped me to try and meet length requirements, which is something I tend to struggle with. Once I get a length requirement I usually have a hard time meeting it and up stretching what I am saying. The free write journals helped me try and get my point across without rambling in the page limit.…

I started a new format when writing papers; I realized I tend to be un-organized with my thoughts when presented with a new assignment. In order to combat this problem I found the most helpful thing for me to do is to create an outline. Brainstorming or outlining ensures that I will not leave out important details out of my papers. I also started to write multiple drafts, prior to my sophomore year I never drafted when I wrote a paper. Drafting allows me to edit and revise my papers.…

There were a few parts of my essay that I feel I should have connected to my overall claim to help make my argument stronger. Even though there were definitely some things I would have to work on, if I had to rewrite this paper I would still focus on my original literacy events because I think I was able to explain them well with doing a decent job of connecting them to my claim. I was expecting to receive feedback regarding my first and last paragraph, which were the parts I had the most trouble on, and some of capitalization and grammatical mistakes which will help me for my future papers. Overall I was glad that you commented on the things I was unsure of because it helped me see where and how I could fix those issues I was having, I now know to focus on connecting my events to the overall claim and going into full detail on my last paragraph would have helped me with the clarity of my essay. When you commented on my use of the quote I thought that was really helpful because when I was writing that paragraph it seemed as if I was using it with full detail but as I read over it with your comments, I realized that I could have incorporated her overall…

Along with sentence structure, organization is also something that is on my priority list. Through my past papers I would always see the same common mistakes, but I would also see improvement in areas such as: vocabulary and detailing. For most of my papers I use strong descriptive wording to really put emphasis on my main points/statements. For example, in one of my papers I wrote, “Along with her diction, the author also uses profound tone to pique the interest of the reader wanting them to read more and learn about the myths that took place in his book. Meaning that, the tone of the book was one of education and the purpose of the book was to teach the reader and give them much insight as to what…
