Introduction
For the past 3 weeks or so I’ve been doing my fieldwork at Sharpstown International. During these days I’ve spent all of my time in the P.E. gym, and I love it. I work with two different classes during each period, and all the kids range middle to high school. My instructor is Ms. Sevier, and she is a blast to work with. Every day is different, and you never know exactly what is going to happen. I’m an extremely active person, so the idea of physical education is perfect towards my interests. These past couple of weeks have really shown me what it’s like to be in that environment, and I know that I could excel in this form of teaching. So now I’m going to let you in on how my days have gone, and all the great situations I’m put in every day.

class it’s very different. You really get to see the different sides of the students as they get to move around and be physically active. That may be the case, but at the same time you can still see those teaching and learning situations come into effect. Just because you’re in a different setting doesn’t mean you necessarily have to switch up your teaching styles completely. During the beginning of the year, my instructor Ms. Sevier, really set the guidelines on how things were going to play out. Now she didn’t just jump right onto to it though, she took it step by step in the form of scaffolding. Ms. Sevier did things such as modeling, hints, and giving suggestions on how to properly perform the activity (Snowman, J. and McCown, R. 2015). This proved to be an effective way of instructing. It was clear to see that at first the students didn’t quite understand the exercises, but as the days went on they gradually began to comprehend the material. Now the students can show up to class, get in their stretch lines, and perform the exercises without the teacher having to be there to give

In Chapter Four of Holler If You Hear Me by Gregory Michie, the author describes how some of the other veteran teachers in his education classes expressed their views on the disconnect between education theory and classroom reality. One such example of this disconnect is the theory of differentiated instruction. I have learned a lot about differentiated instruction in my Foundations Block classes this semester, since I had not previously heard of the concept. In theory, this practice is a great way to tailor instruction to each student’s individual needs, as well as encourage learning and exploration.…

Have you noticed that Physical Education seems to be a narrowing field? I strongly believe that there is a reason we need to keep PE in schools and in society today. Unfortunately, I feel as though many of the educators and teachers today aren’t taking it seriously. They aren’t doing enough to help the students become physically active, instead, the teachers just sit there because it is a job to them, nothing more. If the teachers had a better personal philosophy on what they actually want to teach, then I feel like PE would be a much stronger field and everyone would want it around.…

Stereotypes from past experiences as well as the media have almost formed how most individuals view a physical education teacher. Most people have an idea of what a “good” phys-ed teacher and also what a “bad” phys-ed teacher should be like. Personally, a good physical education teacher should be athletic, a good leader or role model, a strong communicator, confident in their abilities, motivational, organized, creative, and enthusiastic. There are plenty other characteristics that a phys-ed teacher could possess that make them a great teacher, however only these will be touched on. On the other hand a few undesired characteristics that could make a phys-ed teacher seem bad are: mean, bad with people skills, condescending, temperamental,…
