My Reading History

Improved Essays
Over the years, my interest in reading and writing has come in waves of highs and lows. As a fan of movies and music and a student, my reading history varies from articles in magazines, books made in to major motion pictures, and scholarly readings such as text books and academic journals. Apart from reading, part of my literacy history is writing. Being a student, I have written numerous amounts of papers from research papers, narratives, and expository essays. I also blog regularly for my own entertainment about musical artist, pop culture, and films. Currently, I read for fun when I have free time, and I produce content for my blog when inspiration strikes, but I do read at an academic level continuously and write academically due to me …show more content…
Being competitive, in elementary I remember constantly reading to earn the most accelerated reading points in the class. Outside of school my parents were subscribed to Scholastics, so every month I would receive three new books each month from the Dr. Seuss collection as well as from the Disney books collection. My scholastic collection was immense, and I read every book at least three times. Once I had extensive practice reading short books, I moved onto chapter books. When I was introduced to chapter books, Twilight the movie began its press tour and I decided to read the entire book prior to watching the movie. I loved that when I read I could picture everything that was happening in to book and making my own movie in my mind using my imagination. When I went to go watch the movie with my older sisters I already had an idea of what to expect and could analyze what was accurate from the book and what had been changed, and I enjoyed going in to the movie prepared to see what was about to be on the screen. After Twilight, I began reading book prior to watching the movies. For example, I have read the Twilight saga, the Hunger Games trilogy, the Divergent series, the Percy …show more content…
I loved that reading allowed me to create the universe the book belonged in ad then was able to see how someone else envisioned and produced the book in a film. While I was extremely interested into reading books about major motion pictures, I discovered the world of music and fell in love. My first artist that sparked my interest at the age of 12 was Justin Bieber, One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer. The three artists were always in the media, and everyday there was a new article I a magazine or in the tabloids about their music or about their personal lives. I began to read most of the articles I saw on the internet so that I could keep up with what was happening in the music industry with them. I would read articles about tour dates, music that was to be released, and any scandals they may have ben part of. I enjoyed that by reading the articles on billboard, People, and TMZ allowed me to peek into their worlds well as provided me with updates about what was to come. I also began reading the lyrics to songs so that I could develop a deeper understand of what each

By far my favorite book that she would read to me was “Where The Wild Things Are”. Until high school, I considered myself to be a very slow reader and I was always the last one to finish a test. This made me very insecure and embarrassed throughout my schooling, but I also think that it pushed me to work harder at finishing my tests quicker. I started to occasionally read in my free time during middle school. I always enjoyed reading series of books as a teenager, but now I enjoy reading books by the same author one after the other.…

She became my educator throughout elementary whenever I needed help with literature work outside of school.…

A girl at school once asked me, “How are you in this constant state of reading?” I laughed because the answer is simple: I love to read. I chose books as a symbol because reading and literature is very important to my culture and my family. When my father was young, his grandmother used to read to him every day, and my father did the same for my siblings and I. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read, and I own many books that I keep on shelves.…

I was a voracious reader of authors in the order of V.C. Andrews, Lois Duncan, and S.E. Hinton. My books of choice were accessible and largely for entertainment purposes only. I loved inspecting the cover art and flipping through the pages. The internet was not around to occupy my time in the early 80's. I employed books to escape from my reality.…

I have always been a reader, I don't think there has ever been a time in my life where I haven't loved it. My mom is a teacher, so as a child reading was part of our everyday life. We had annual passes to the library and would attend the mommy and me events. I remember when I was about four or five, I would sneak a flashlight into my room and read Wizard of Oz. Although I couldn't actually read the words out of this huge chapter book, I would make the story up, pretending I knew what I was reading.…

I used to always read all time when I was younger, during dinner, free time or anywhere that I could possibly get a place to read. There was something about books to me when I was reading them, like video games but with books. For hours, I would just sit down and read until I was told to do something or until I was done with the book. For example, Geronimo Stilton, a series of books I loved when I was younger back in sixth grade, which I would sit down and finish 5 books in a matter of a few hours. Then I was introduced to no illustration books, which I was not cooperative with reading with until I read Rick Riordan’s books.…

Literature captivates the potential to evoke one’s imagination and inspire creativity in anyone who starts to breathe in the precious words.
