Throughout my life, the English language has been a huge part of my life. I believe leaning to read and write are very important in today 's society, so I am very grateful to have had resources to be able to do so. I remember when my mom used to take me to the library. I was not in school yet, but my mom tried her best to make sure I could read at a certain level. We would take turns reading each page. When we finished reading the book, she would ask me what the book was about to make sure I understood what the book was about. My earliest memory of writing is probably during school, I do not really remember writing much at home other than practicing writing the alphabet.

I find reading more enjoyable than watching a movie or TV show because it is way more descriptive. To me, reading is fun as long as I get to pick what I read. Reading books in class are not as enjoyable, unless it is a very interesting book. Some books I enjoyed reading for school were The Giver and The Great Gatsby. Writing has never really been an enjoyable experience, unless is was creative writing. I have always had problems with writing. Generally, I have never really been a fan of English class. I have always done average in my English classes. I was fine with everything, until it came to writing that was not …show more content…
I believe society runs on the idea of people being literate. As a person, I believe reading allows my mind to expand and escape from reality. Writing allows me to express my feelings in a way that I cannot by just speaking about them. It lets me think about what I want to say before actually saying it. As a student, reading and writing are very important to being a successful student. Reading and writing do not solely occur in an English class, but every class includes reading and writing in some sort of way. In the future as a professional, I believe reading and writing will still be a huge part of my life. Especially since I hope to become a scientific researcher, I will have to do a lot of reading a writing to be successful. This means that I must work hard to become very confident in my skills in reading and

When I Learned to Read and Write. I first started reading and writing in preschool, my teacher was very helpful and did everything she could do to help me achieve goals, and become who I am today. When I was younger I would pretend that I could read and I would read to all of my toys. In preschool, my teacher saw me trying to read so she came over to me and started to help me sound out the words and form the sentences so that I could read. The first book I read was Dr.Seuss’ “Green, Eggs and Ham.”…

Writing is different for everyone. We all have interesting stories to tell. If there is one thing that is true for every writer, it is that we all have an inner critic. Allegra Goodman advises writers how to get past their inner critic in her article, “Calming the Inner Critic and Getting to Work”. Silencing my inner judgments can be one of the most challenging parts of writing, but once the critic is silenced something magical and therapeutic emerges.…

Beginning from grade school through middle and high school, we learn how to read and write as we grow. More importantly, we learn how to grab and hold onto many things; the illusions that we aim to achieve, called dreams. The drive to push and better yourself to grasp onto unexpected possibilities, we call opportunities. The belief and confidence that you hold within you, we call faith. Independence as your hope, in all experiences that you’ll be able to make something towards your future.…

My Path to Literacy For a very long time writing and reading was a huge struggle for me. I was one of those students who was very intelligent, but disliked reading tremendously and was often told, “You write the way you talk”. The older I grew the more I realized that my struggles with writing was due to my lack of reading. I was aware of my issues but because it became a part of my writing habits it was hard to adapt to anything different. I wanted to be like everyone else and be a good authentic and productive writer but it seemed almost impossible.…

As a student teacher, I would recommend students like me to get help with writing problems early. I still get help when it comes down to writing an essay. I’m also still learning how to be a better writer. When I think about writing, I always think about English classes doing most of the writing but writing is essential in every subject. I label myself as not being a writer but someday it’s going to be my duty to teach others to be.…

Reading and writing have impacted my life in numerous ways; in fact, reading books has impacted my life by expanding my vocabulary. My mother would read difficult books to expose me to broad new words to me at a young age. She would also have me study dictionaries, and continuously give me spelling test. When I got a little older I would start to read books on my own. I would read books that opened up my imagination; such as the series, The Magic Tree House.…

Literacy Narrative The earliest memory I have of reading is with my grandmother at her house. When I was a toddler, she would read to me every time I spent the night with her. My favorite book for her to read to me was Three Little Kittens by Paul Galdone. I 'm not too sure why this was my favorite book, but my grandmother says that I "insisted on having it read to me" every single time I was with her. She would also read the Bible to me, which was quite confusing and complicated for a child to comprehend, but she explained the stories to me in a child-like format.…

Sociological Autobiography: Academic, Adaptable, Affordable Although I attended free public schools all my life, the institutions I attended placed emphasis on academic success. After being a part of the GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) Program in elementary school, my understanding of academic culture within school was molded. Having been grouped with other GATE students, the facilitators of GATE instilled in us the importance of academic success as expressed through high-achieving grades with all A’s, exemplary descriptive assessments from our teachers, and the belief that schoolwork should take precedent over everything. Through socialization I learned that school was a place for academic success which has shaped my educational journey…

Being able to read and write is an essential skill, everyone needs this skill. Reading and writing is used everyday without even thinking about it. I came to the United States when I still believed in fairy tales and Santa Claus; everything to me about the United States was different and new; I went to school not knowing English, I didn’t have any friends and most of all, I struggled trying to comprehend my teachers. I was eager to learn English and to be able to write. Before I came to this foreign country my dad would travel to Nicaragua which, is where I’m from he’d bring toys that would prepare us to learn this new language that would later on give us so many opportunities.…

I connect with this quote because I believe it is a very accurate description of myself when I do not write. For me writing gives me the ability to get out of my own head. Writing allows me to put my anxiety on paper. Everything that I can't stop obsessing over leaves my head, enters my fingers, and befriends the paper. When I can not write, in a way it is my own form of insanity.…

“Write to be understood, speak to be heard, read to grow”, as once said by Lawrence Clark Powell, is something that I have grown to understand and believe in through my day- to- day experience in everything that I do. In today’s world, where technology is evolving, reading and writing are essential towards acquiring any job or skills, I begin to look back at my life and appreciate the time and effort my parents put into making my education a success, and it couldn’t have been so without reading, writing and grasping every little concept. The Journey wasn’t always easy, there were days when the road was smooth and the sky was clear but, there were also days when the road was rough and the storm was raging. I can remember vividly when I…

Most people write autobiographies because they are famous or a tragic event has happened to them. Others write biographies to give people insight and advice. When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
