My RMS Experience

I remember my first day of middle school like it was yesterday. I was about ten years old and very nervous. I’m not sure why though, because when entering middle school I already almost everybody in the grade. I probably thought that Ridgway was gonna be like a mini version of those high school, where there were huge bullies and people getting shoved into lockers. But it wasn’t like that all. I did have to get used to new teachers and the scheduling, but at the end of the day it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Fifth grade. Ahh, yes my very first year in Ridgway Middle School. I don’t remember too much from this grade, but I can't tell you that I still really enjoyed. I only had two teachers in this grade and they

No longer the babies of Ridgway Middle School. This year was a lot easier for me because I was now used to the new environment and scheduling. I had a couple more teachers during the school year and they were Mr.Spezzano, Mrs.Loringer, Mrs.Fontana, and I even had Mrs.Ramm again for she moved up from a fifth grade social studies teacher to a sixth grade social studies teacher. Mr.Spezzano was one of my favorites out of this group because he was so laid back, fun, and barely gave us any homework! Anyways, I remember a lot more from this grade than fifth grade and let me tell you, these years were a lot more eventful. During sixth grade, I had to great opportunity to go to one of my soon to be favorite field trips; Camp Ockanickon. It was a three day two night trip which consisted of a numerous of activities to choose from including fishing and canoeing. I made so many great memories from this trip, and I would have to say that this was my all time favorite trip. Another event that happened in sixth grade was our Egyptian project in Mrs. Fontana’s class. We were learning about ancient Egypt and the mummification process which resulted in us recreating the steps for our fellow classmates. I remember we had to choose a partner, select a step in the process, and study it. We then got a life-size dummy which our class “mummified it”. This project was one of my favorite projects in Ridgway. As you can obviously tell, sixth may have been my most eventful year in Ridgway Middle

My first day of middle school was hell, I have always been good at school. My grades have never been bad and neither have my actions and or attendance. Probably from having a mom that is also a teacher. I look at that as a good thing though, watching kids just goof off and not come to school then high school rolled around and it was like I got to look down on them because they did not prepare for bigger and better things. School wasn't bad for me because it was hard, it was bad because i was always shy in school.…

Sitting out and doing my own thing has been what a majority of people tend to expect from me. Even before using a power wheelchair full time, I had been slower than all of my classmates in school, because I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. In the sixth grade, my power wheelchair helped me to become more involved in activities; I could move around freely with no assistance. I was elated by this freedom, as it allowed me to be active, and participate in games with my friends. Sixth Grade was also the first year a race to raise money for Duchenne started in Rockford, Illinois, the Shamrock Shuffle.…

Elementary School (5-6) When I entered the 5th grade I saw no reason to see why this year would be any different from all other years, aside from the fact that I would be closer to Junior High and have to accomplish more challenging work. The year progressed uneventfully and I found myself being decently content with what I had. However, it seemed that I was missing something; I was doing fine in all my classes but I did not really have any motivation. In the last month of school, the Band Department from the high school visited to show us students how to play instruments and to decide if we wanted to enroll in a summer band program.…

My education started when I was just three years old, sitting between my parents on their bed, reading - or at least trying to - the HOP (Hooked On Phonics) books. It was our nightly routine all through Pre-K. By the time that I was in Kindergarten we had worked our way up to the Magic Tree House stories, Junie B. Jones, and The Chronicles of Narnia books, and so many more. My parents made sure that they started to teach me skills that I would need for school at a young age. From reading books every night, to practicing math while calculating carbohydrate counts and insulin dosages for my diabetes, I took in all the knowledge that I could, like a sponge.…
