My Favorite Color Analysis

Simple objects such as a quilt and a pillow are symbols for an important person in my life. Quilts are things that some people look past as just another blanket or just something used to make a pallet with; but in my case I look at them as symbols of a loved one’s time, love, and effort put into something that you can remember them by. My aunt Marry played an important role in my life and she died an unexpected death. My aunt and I would do things together that most people would be jealous of, like do each other’s hair and makeup, or rake leaves, etc. Aunt Mary loved to tell funny jokes or make silly faces to make my sister and I laugh. She taught us that no matter what people say you are beautiful on the inside and out, and never believe …show more content…
She always asked me what my favorite color was and if I ever wanted a quilt. I always told her that my favorite color was purple and that I just wanted her to make it how she liked to make them. So on one day that she had free she and I made a huge purple quilt that to this day hangs on the headboard of my bed in my room. It took us three days to make it halfway and it still was not finished. Therefore, she told me that she would finish it later. She lived in Florida, so she had to travel back and forth between Florida and Texas. When she came to town, everybody in the family around Beckville came to grandma’s house to ask her how she was doing and watch her make quilts, scarves, etc. Grandma would make good food for the whole family and more if people want to take some home with them. When Aunt Mary got dome with one of her quilts, the food would be ready so we would all go in, have supper in the dining room, and listen to all of Aunt Mary’s stories that she always seemed to have when she got …show more content…
Aunt Mary taught me to chase my dreams, that if you can dream it you can be it. She also said that ever since she was a little girl she wanted to be a veterinarian, but she and her family could not afford it at the time. That is actually, why I want to be a veterinarian so bad, so I can live out the dream that my Aunt had. Every night I look at my pillow and the quilt and think of what she told me almost 6 years ago; “Always be yourself no matter what people think or say about you behind your back.” I will always miss the way she used to tell funny jokes and make weird faces at my sister and I to make us laugh, always miss the times that we used to sit on the front porch swing and knit together. I will always know that the pillow and the quilt that I have will always represent an important person in my

J Personal items can often hold a lot of weight for a child. For Marilyn Nelson Waniek, this is represented through her and her sister’s love of blankets. A source of comfort, imagination, and memories, the blankets and quilt Waniek describes throughout her poem, The Century Quilt, illustrate her feelings towards family. Waniek uses structure, imagery, and tone in her poem to show her deep relationship to her family, and most particularly their diversity and the way their generations progress.…

The purpose of this lab is to determine the Ka of an indicator within an unknown solution. This can be determined because acid-base indicators are weak bases or acids, and when neutralized they change colors. The color change is measured by the light absorption spectra in the compound which can be used to calculate the concentration. This experiment measures the concentrations by the different pH values which allows the pKa and Ka to be determined. Through the experiment, and the recorded color change with the use of the Spec 20 the unknown Ka of the solution was found.…

After reading and analyzing The Century Quilt by Marilynn Nelson, the reader can interpret that the author is telling a story about her cultural background and the significance of a family heirloom that has been passed down for generations. The narrator was sharing her feelings on how she felt about not getting a family heirloom over her older sister and she related that to her grandmother. Nelson used theme, symbolism, and point of view to showcase her feelings about being an outcast in her own family. When reading the poem, it is evident that the theme of the poem is exclusion. The speaker felt as if she was left out of her own family, so she used her pain and compared it to her grandmother’s experience when she was mended into a new family.…

Symbols, physical objects that represent ideas, emotions, or philosophies, are universally recognizable and important, especially in the literary tradition. Yet, in many ways, the significance of symbols transcends beyond their connections to themes. People not only assign meaning to objects, they assign humanity into objects, permanently interjecting a personal part of themselves into the world.…
