Executive RN Personal Statement

My quest of becoming a student in this Executive RN Program and the possibility of earning my Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) has been a long journey. As a student in the Executive RN program, I am excited about the possibility of earning an advanced degree along with the career opportunities it may bring. With this program, I am concerned about being disconnected from my family to complete the necessary schoolwork and the financial burden it may bring to my family. In the year 2000, while in the military, my wife, and my fellow military colleagues ' encouraged me to go back to school in becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). In the summer of 2015, I was saddened to learn the cancellation of the 2015-2016 Executive RN program due to low interest. With this disappointing news, I enrolled and took classes at the University of Hawaii (UH) at West Oahu (WO) with the intention of completing my upper division course requirements for the Executive RN program or obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration (PUBA). Either way, I viewed this action as a win-win situation. In the spring of 2016, I got word that UH at Manoa will be offering the Executive RN program for the fall of 2016; subsequently, I applied and was excited to learn of my admission into the …show more content…
However, I currently foresee immediate challenges to those plans - my son, the eldest child, who is currently a junior in high school, is hopeful in becoming a Pharmacist and intends to attend the UH at Hilo. Furthermore, my daughter, who is three years younger than my son, is aspiring to become an Ophthalmologist. Similar to many parents, I may once again delay my goals for the time being to assist both my children in achieving their education and career
