Statement of purpose
-Nishita Vegi
Ever since the fire, flight has been the most intriguing thing that evaded the grasp of man for decades at once. Soaring like a bald eagle on a bright summer’s day seemed to be the stuff dreams were made of, until a few decades back. Now, all of mankind dreams about living on stars. When you say flight, I think of birds. When you say birds, I think of their wings. When you say wings, I think of an aircraft. When you say aircraft, I think of the birds flying. Everything about me has a proclivity towards flight. Like the long journey of air moving across the span of the wings, my formative years, were mostly spent on trying to catch my dream.

I realized that being the best in your home turf is one thing. Extending your prowess on alien turfs is a whole new ball game. My Bachelor's degree would not be enough for me to live the dream that I had envisioned. So, I started to look out for various ways to better myself. I had a passion for organizing events which led me to start an Event Management Company called “Hypnotikz”. I was also selected and elected by the students to lead the managing committee of ALBEDO 2014, a national level technical symposium. This experience helped me develop strategic thinking along with interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills. I have practical experience of both leading teams and working as a team member. My satisfying association with the education of mentally challenged children as a volunteer in Indian Railways women's welfare organization for the years 2011 and 2012 helped me to see the world with

When Milkman first begins his journey, he gains his first experience of actual flight on an airplane. However, even then “the wings of all those other people’s nightmares flapped in his face and constrained him” (Morrison 222). “When the little boy discovered, at four, the same thing Mr. Smith had learned earlier-that only birds and airplanes could fly-he lost all interest in himself” (9). In this example, Milkman is feeling a similar imprisonment as Smith and Solomon, feeling trapped within his community and family. This leads Milkman on a mission in life to take flight and escape the reality that he has been forced into. After Milkman has grown up a little, he and his friend Guitar come across a peacock one day and “Milkman felt again his unrestrained joy at anything that could fly” (178). In fact, Milkman actually longs to be like the peacock, so Guitar tells him “Wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down”, and Milkman does just that (179).…

My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

Opportunity to Success I am not born to a rich family that has everything I want and need and clearly I am not born with any amazing skills either. I am just a normal person who is lucky enough to receive the wonderful opportunity of a formal education in America. Despite my family’s lack of English language skills and the limitations of my family’s resources, I have been able to navigate myself through the American educational system. With hard work, many hours of studying and dedication to school, I have found success in high school in just four years of speaking English. However, my hard work is not over yet.…

I do have to say “Uncle Marcos” could be another good choice for your thesis statement, it adds a little bit of fantasy of how flying was invented or thought of, I could see someone watching like the Wright brothers seeing this man on a contraption in the air and thought about making one. Although “Uncle Marcos” is another good point of view it is not as realistic as it seems or says, this is why I choose “To Fly” as a better example for why humans have such a desire to fly. In conclusion I would support “To Fly” as the best choice and nothing else some others might say the same or different but I supported my reasons with textual…

Living in Olathe, Kansas, a large suburb outside of Kansas City, did not prepare me for the move to Salina. The benefits of living in a larger suburb are that the high schools can really help you prepare for the transition to college level classes. I did not take the help the school gave out into consideration when going to classes. My senior year was when everything clicked into place and I knew what I want to do with my life, and that was flying.…

Whenever one is startled, or caught off-guard, the innate human response is to either flee or fight. Most human brains are wired to run from danger. This runs parallel to when humans are faced with a problem or a difficult situation. Many individuals would rather run away from problems than work at resolving them. The novel “Things That Fly” by Douglas Coupland conveys the themes of Escape as well as The Human Condition in his short story by utilizing the symbols of Superman, the narrator’s messy apartment, and birds’ ability to fly.…

My primary reason for wanting to transfer to The University of Virginia, aside from genuinely desiring to attend the University that several of my good friends attend, is that I wish to participate in the Aerospace Engineering program—for which there is no comparable program at VCU. Thus far, commuting to VCU and taking engineering, mathematics and physics courses related to my intended major(s) of Mechanical Engineering and Physics has been exhilarating, and has helped to solidify my interest in engineering. I have had wonderful experiences at VCU, such as crafting a coil gun and undertaking a University Teaching Assistant position; however, after participating in the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program, I knew my passion lay with Aerospace Engineering. This passion to innovate and discover in the realm of Aerospace Engineering prompted my need to change…

As I reflect on my personal life I value life itself to the point I live each day not knowing what to expect the next day. Positivity is a major factor in all that I do to the point of trying to view all things in a positive way and leaving the negativity out the door. As a mother, partner, educator, and entrepreneur I strive to be mindful, spiritual, and conscious of all my actions. I value these things because this is what makes up my life and what I live for each day. My life is a fourth generation person and I relate because I “want to live, love, learn, and leave it like a seed with balance and joy" (Covey, 73) the quality of my life is more important than planning it out.…
