My Pre-Pharmacy Personal Statement

Decent Essays
I chose the Pre-Pharmacy major mainly because I enjoy learning about how medications work and seeing how pharmaceutical technology is advancing throughout the years. I was born with a congenital condition that caused me to be born without my outer left ear. I had three reconstruction surgeries at UNC Chapel Hill and was amazed by the hospital setting, especially the medications that were used to help me recover from my surgeries. After my surgeries, I often wondered how drugs worked in a human body system. Despite missing out on school and various extracurricular activities to focus on my recovery, I continued to work hard on my schoolwork to keep my grades up. With much success, I decided to enroll myself in courses that focused on health

My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to attend North Dakota State University. My dad and sister are NDSU alumni, so furthering my education where they did provides us with a unique bond. Additionally, not many of my relatives attended college, allowing me to see the difficulties in providing for oneself and family without a college degree. Although I know the next seven years are going to be challenging, extremely strenuous, and will push me to the edge of my comfort zone, the satisfaction of administering medical services to those who need them will make it worthwhile. Not only will I be able to care for others with a Pharm.…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

In these pictures, she had tubes in her body, and suddenly she did not look like my cousin anymore.…

In my early years of high school, I considered going to Pharmacy school at the University of Kansas, which although expensive, would be more reasonable for myself as a Kansas resident. When I took Chemistry my sophomore year, I quickly came to realize that a profession which will require chemistry daily is not a profession fit for me. Contrarily, I became more involved with the Beaver Broadcasting Network (BBN), and Mr. Holt gave me opportunities to explore the world of Sports Media, resulting in my passion growing. Eventually becoming the main sports anchor for the BBN, I quickly became more comfortable on the sidelines and interviewing athletes.…
