My Practicum Experience With The Aging Industry

Decent Essays
As always, it was wonderful to hear from an MGS alumni, who is experienced in the field of aging. It was not surprising that people find it weird to have a degree in gerontology to work for the older population. His journey seems fascinating as he had an interest in serving older adults, since his early age. It is understandable that being in a decision making position is not as easy as a pie. I can imagine how a person at his position has to deal with stakeholders, service providers and the recipients effectively in order to keep the organization running. He also mentioned about some gaps in the communication among the employees related to the culture change. It is good to know that he is engaged in developing and implementing new products. Although there is a limited fund, he welcomes new technology to improve efficiency and quality. The aging industry requires a leader like him. …show more content…
On the other hand, as mentioned in the article, having a cynic view discourages the growth in an organization. From my practicum experience, the Administrator was not welcoming when one of the previous interns suggested developing a separate website for a nursing home. Similarly, when the activity director attempted to introduce some new activities, the proprietor did not accept the idea. I think these discouragements hinder the innovation in the

In addition, The AGNP collaborate with other health care providers such as physicians and specialist to better manage and treat patient illness. The problem I am really interested in researching is catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) in hospitalized patients. Learning about successful aging in this chapter gives me a reason to feel more optimistic about aging because, in the book, it states that “everyone wants to age “successful,” although we may differ in how we define successful aging. To some, this may mean maintaining good health and being free of diseases that might limit physical and mental skills and the ability to actively participate in desired daily activities (Rowe & Kahn,1998). As a person who believes in the saying of this quote. I never thought about successful aging to be more than just that. Until Kristen Lowry, her colleague, and David Snowdon talked about their ideas and research.…

Health Care Need With an influx of older patients due to the baby boomer generation, I can predict that there will be a increase in the amount of patient care we will have to deliver to a vastly aging population. Not only that, but due to increased medical technology and advances in medicine, people are living longer and surviving injuries at better outcomes and rates. What does this mean for us? We are the next wave of nurses that are going to be employed at facilities that are going to care for these patients. This presents both an opportunity and crisis for younger, newer nurses.…

Aging is a beautiful challenging unique process that we have the privilege of tackling in each of our lives. For some it may be an easy planned out progression without many bumps in the road, but for most it is an ever changing journey that makes us who we are today. Aging doesn’t always ask us what we want or what we planned on doing with our time, but instead gives us experiences, good and bad, that make up our lives. What better way to understand being an adult and the aging process than to ask people who are right in the middle of it! Because different people with different ages have different experiences, I interviewed a 20 year old, a 58 year old and a 67 year old and asked about their aging experiences.…

The retirement age is one of the most controversial topics. Indeed, it is the point where a person stops working completely, and Germany was the first country that announced the retirement system. It is a hard condition or position for old people, when they are forced to retire because of national regulations which provide or state that the retirement age is in 60, despite being fit or not. They have the right to continue working as long as they can. Actually, intellectual and scientific production will not stop once they reach the age of sixty, and the retirement from work is not the beginning of the end.…
