All in all I attended more than 60 hours of IOP, sat in on an 8 hour DUI class, observed intake assessments, helped with the case management process, and gathered valued feedback from both my supervisors and fellow coworkers. Early on within this practicum I realized just how much work goes on being the scenes of a mental health facility, and how hard everyone works to keep their clients satisfied. A substance abuse counselor can expect a wide variety of different ways in which they can achieve a job in this profession. Educational requirement range from a high school diploma to a master’s degree, depending on the setting, type of work, state regulations, and level of responsibility. At this time in my life I plan on going for my masters’ degree in Social Work and will decide what to do from there.
