Personal Narrative: The Motto Of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated

The motto of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated is “Friendship is Essential to the Soul”. For as long as I can recollect, my mother has always stressed to me the importance of uplifting others and immersing people in love and companionship; she also taught me how pivotal it is for my well being to also receive it in return. Therefore, this motto to me is more than just a motto, but it is indeed a lifestyle. Throughout my life I have faced strenuous predicaments, but in every situation the solution to my problem was never money nor any other tangible item, but it was the people in my life that were the remedy to all misfortune I had ever stumbled upon. Being raised by a single mother from Jamaica has truly allowed me to fully understand how unscrupulous and corrupted our world can be. Though her effort was always very apparent, she always seemed to be “stuck”. Due to the reality of oppression, people in lower and middle class often time feel stagnant and unworthy, and this sense of hopelessness habitually transcends to the youth, thus training us to feel impotent from a very young age. This wretched cycle is something I have personally fell victim to, but I was able to overcome this mentality by consistently stimulating my mind, body, and soul. I would love to elegantly fulfill the position as Miss Omega Psi Phi so I can extend my outreach effectively and spread awareness, positivity and optimism throughout our campus and in local communities targeting our youth.
