Food Group and Calories Report
The My Plate Dietary Guidelines was established to assist consumers on healthy choices and to decrease high-calories, high-sugar, high-sodium and high-saturated fat intake. Further, denouncing a sedentary life-style which contribute to obesity and chronic diseases in adults and children. Consequently, encouraging balanced calories, foods to increase and food to reduce. The food groups consists of grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, proteins, oils and total calories.
Based on My Plate Guidelines of the combination of whole grains and refined grains the target intake should be five ounces and based on my three day intake my average intake exceed the recommendation. …show more content…
The total fat categories is divided into saturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat, but area of concern is my saturated percentage. (Choose my Plate, 2015) My current diet include bacon, butter, baked goods, fried foods and poultry with skin. Consequently, to decrease chronic disease such as heart disease cutting saturated fats from our diet is necessary to promote healthy living. Hyperlipidemia causes a plethora of specific diseases for example atherosclerosis, stroke, and vascular diseases. Therefore, primary prevention and secondary prevention is deemed mainstay treatment to combat this epidemic. Lifestyles changes like exercise and eating a healthy diet. For example increasing my fruit, vegetable, whole grain, nuts and fish intake and limiting red meats. Also, choose lean meats and poultry without the skin and by preparing them without added saturated and Trans. fat. My last total cholesterol screening which includes my LHL, HDL and triglycerides was within normal range (below 200mg/dl) because of my poor eating habits this is an area of much concern. My three day summary indicated my average cholesterol was 529mg above the recommended target of < 300mg.

Before a physician prescribes medication for hyperlipidemia it is recommended that exercise in conjunction with healthy food choices can promote an immediate and long-term health benefit. With my busy family, work and personal life I find it very difficult to exercise. My thirty minutes of walking each day is a start, but to experience greater results I have recently join a Planet Fitness with my son and he promised to be my work out partner. In addition, I used the stairs whenever possible and park at the farthest away parking space in increase my physical activities.
