Reflective Essay: My Philosophy Of Education

Improved Essays
My philosophy of education is for the children to grow by achieving their potential in an inclusive environment knowing to respect every individual values and beliefs. I believe every child has the potential to achieve irrespective of their abilities as no two children are born the same. As Rubio (2009, online) states, each classroom has children with various abilities and needs, who all develop at a different pace. However, by teaching in a classroom having mixed abilities would stimulate and motivate a child to learn. As Dewey argued (Nodding 1998, p.9) that education has to be tailored to the needs and interests of individual children and social constructivist approach for teaching; where a child is scaffold by a more knowledgeable other. As suggested by Mc Namara and Moreton (1998 cited Adami 2004, p.93) differentiating the task by peer tutoring by high ability children to low ability acting as MKO might benefit learning for both groups. This is witnessed in current educational setting as group work and peer interaction. Much of my philosophy supports Aristotle, Plato and Dewey. These philosophers supported social interaction and without gaining the social skills it is impossible to reform into a better citizen.
Aristotle states () that “man is a social animal.” Children spend a significant amount of time with their teacher during term time; therefore, in addition to his/her parents, a teacher plays a crucial role in a child’s educational progress and in inspiring him/her to perform educationally and socially to be a good citizen. Education has always

With that responsibility, the role of the teacher within this structure has become paramount to the type of citizen-produced by the school system. In some ways, the teacher serves as a middleman between the higher-ups that govern the school system and the students in a transmission process, but they also have the ability to transform the ways in which students internalize normative ideologies. It is for the latter reason, in large part, that I have the desire to become an educator. Prior to the start of this course, I saw the teacher as a…

Teachers are very important in a student’s life; not only do they teach different subjects like Math, Science, etc., but they also teach students life lessons. It is also their responsibility to train future doctors, lawyers, leaders, and more. This means they have an influence on both the nation, and even the world. The Other Side of the Lens Peering through the viewfinder, I adjusted the focal length of the lens. The girls flitted within the frame, fueled by a sugar-induced hysteria. All five cradled ice cream cones, exuberantly embracing each other with sticky hands. Crisp pine trees lined the path through camp, framing the elated chaos. With a click, I stopped down the aperture, extending the depth of field and drawing each member of my wacky sixth grade group into focus.…

Every child learns early on not to “judge a book by its cover,” yet everyday people constantly judge one another by their appearance without reason. The enduring understanding “you have a view of the world that your upbringing and experiences have shaped” highlights the root of the judgment that most people show towards one another. I chose to focus on this enduring understanding because I thought that it was the most relatable one for the greatest number of people. I also choose this enduring understanding because I think that growing up wealthy gives me a different perspective of the world than I would have had if I had grown up poor and homeless. I felt that this enduring understanding fit my life well; therefore, I had no need to change…

Professional learning is an ongoing process and I am at my best a student eager to learn. Last school year I worked on completing my gifted endorsement and this year I am enrolled in the Teacher Leader endorsement, my mom always tells me that I love learning so much because when I was in her womb she was in her senior year in college, she even tells me I took a couple of classes with her, and would respond in her womb to the professor, so, I guess I’m a natural born learner. As a student I was inducted into several honor societies including Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, Phi Kappa Phi, International Honor Society, Pi Lambda Theta, International Honor Society for Education, Pi Sigma Alpha, Political Science Honor Society,…

“The purpose of education is to enhance individual effectiveness in society and give learners practical knowledge and problem and problem-solving skills.” John Dewey (2008). Dewey's emphasis on the importance of democratic relationships in the classroom setting necessarily shifted the focus of educational theory from the institution of the school to the needs of the school's students. According to John Dewey the needs, experiences and abilities of students are essential. Progressivism focuses on the whole child and not the teacher or the curriculum.…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…
