My Philosophy Of Counseling

Growing up I was never quite sure as to what I wanted to do as a career. I knew I had the passion and drive to help others, but I never knew where it would fit in the most. I changed my major several times upon entering college. I went from teaching, nursing and a few other options, but I realized I was just settling. My parents always pushed me to go into the medical field so this is why I struggled with finding my fit. I finally stood my ground and went for something I knew deep down I would enjoy. I had a great counselor when I was in high school and I loved what she did to help us. I looked up to her. I was led into this field in my undergraduate work. So many children and young adults need someone to talk to and often times do not get that at home. Through counseling, we can assist the students in understanding how they feel and how they can be successful. Counseling, I have also learned gives one a since of pride in their works. After you have successfully helped someone you can’t help but feel joy inside. It is rewarding for the counselor and the client. Counseling is also a diverse field because you can choose what group you would like to work with based on your interest whether it is children, young adults, marriage and family, or …show more content…
I have the drive to succeed in life and enjoy seeing others succeed too. When that child or even another person feels better after I talk to them it makes my heart smile. I believe I am well rounded and a good listener for those who need me to listen. I hope to gain through the program a better understanding of myself and others. My way of thinking is already in the process of being molded into understand others different than myself. I am learning to place myself in another person’s shoes to understand what they are experiencing. I hope to also gain control over my anxieties and learn to be more out spoken. Which is becoming better with practice and will help me become the professional that I want to be. This program so far has opened my eyes to what students are experiencing and has given me a better understanding of the school
