Learning about my personality type, as well as other personality types, I can get a better understanding of why people act differently in a particular situation. Learning about different personality types allows us to accept and value the differences in personalities. Since reading about the different personality types I have recognizing that each personality has characteristics that are beneficial, but also has weak characteristics. People often focus on capitalizing on their strengthens and do not spend enough time trying to improve their weaknesses. When people understand their own personality’s weakness, they can ultimately use that knowledge to defeat that particular behavior. Ultimately learning the disadvantages of being personality type ESFJ will help me in my job as an underwriter for an insurance company. Reading about my personality trait has taught me several actions that I can do to become a both a better employee and coworker at my place of work. I even learned skills that could potentially mold me into a more leadership role.
Being open about conflict and disagreements help can mold me into a better employee. In the work place, I have always viewed conflict and disagreements as negative. In the past, when I have disagreed with a process or the way something at work had been handled, I just brushed it under the rug. Since reading Type Talk at Work, I have learned that conflict is not bad, rather beneficial. Next time I have a conflict or simple disagreement with a work process or a person, I will just ask to set up a meeting with who ever involved. A meeting would allow all parties to state their case, this way each person gets a better understanding of a particular viewpoint. Conflicts and disagreements are inevitable and there will be no solution to the conflict unless it is talked about. From this point forward, I will open up with co-workers and management whenever I have a disagreement. Open discussions regarding conflict with my coworkers and management will allow me to be more content, productive, and creative at the work
