After taking the true colors personality assessment, I learned that my personality associates with the color blue. Those of this color tend to be compassionate, dramatic, and emotional. Therefore, the perspective and opinions of others has an immense impact on my emotions and decision making. During the NSO sessions, my goal was to facilitate a group atmosphere where each student feels comfortable to share details about themselves, form friendships, and maintain those relationships to provide a support system in the following semesters. However, the result were opposite of what I had anticipated. This inability to reach out to these students and produce the results I had desired negatively affected my mentality. I began to doubt my abilities as a leader and questioned whether it was the student’s disinterest or my fault as a leader. I learned an exceptional amount of information about the other leaders and myself. I was able to create a friendships with a variety of students that I surely would not have met if it were not for NSO. Through these friendships, I gained the best friends that I have always hoped for. I improved my leadership abilities, interpersonal communication, interactive skills, and my confidence. These lessons are valuable to my future and I will continue to apply them throughout my life. Furthermore, initially being assigned to the involvement workshop was perplexing since I was never involved in activities on campus. However, I have been inspired by this experience to become involved on campus. I have already selected the RIOs I plan to join in the following semesters and volunteer at services that were introduced through the resource fair. I intend to utilize the involvement PowerPoint in the future as a reminder and to encourage myself to continue to just get

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

Weekly current events educated me about issues going on in the world that I was clueless about. Quarterly presentations taught me how to create an effective presentation and present it with confidence. Each and every assignment had a purpose behind it, and as a student, I have never felt as eager to learn and become a better person until I joined this program, and met the most inspiring teacher, Ms. Suess, who tells my class all the time to follow our passion. I would not have matured and came this far academically if I didn’t join this…

Leadership is imperative to supporting the foundation of succession in our society. It is important that we exercise our God given right to utilize our sphere of influence to the best of our abilities. Although leadership may gain you more recognition throughout society it is not about the affluence one can acquire; leading is solely about guiding others down a path of success so that future generations can more easily learn from our mistakes to pass down to the next generation. That is why I believe mentoring and any position of leadership should be central to young adults to set the example for the impactful youth. I found my sphere of influence to be within the academic driven chapter of the National Honor Society which in my senior year I was elected president.…

As a possible incoming student, who not only desires to, but needs to learn and attend a favorable campus, the things that I can offer and/or bring are my experiences and skills. I will try to help enrich the campus community as much as I can. Although, my experiences and interests may be easily overlooked by some because of the simple fact that I am “only seventeen,” and that everyone is still continuously evolving. I believe I can still bring something to only help enrich the community. A particular experience that I know differentiates from others is, being Hmong.…

The rest of the facts that are not-so great also apply; “vulnerable side”, “worry about every little thing”, and “rigid”.…

My Personal Leadership Philosophy and How it has Developed As a leader I am very unique. I hold strong personal values in the areas of trust, respect, and responsibility. I believe that no one person should be responsible for someone else, but that we have to grow up and learn to take care of ourselves. Prior to this course, I perceived leaders as people who told a group of people what to do in order to accomplish a task. When I was put in a leadership position I was always effective, but I never really took the thoughts or feelings of others into consideration.…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader.
