Mark Twain once said “Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words.”, this quote has always stuck out in my head during any writing assignment. This quote reminds me that all I have to do is just say whatever comes to mind and cross out the words that do not fit. However, how do you know what is the right and wrong words to use in your assignment. This revision process has not been my strength in my personal writing process. Despite this obstacle, I have developed techniques that help me revise and brain storm before I begin an assignment. When I am given a writing assignment the first thing I do is make sure that I understand what I am being asked to write about. I read over the directions multiple times and start brainstorming …show more content…
To assure that I convey the topics main points I create an overall idea for each paragraph. For example, if I was writing about softball I would be sure to mention all the various positions, skills needed, and strategies in their own paragraph. his means that the paragraph will only include the information specific for that topic as well as ensuring there is a smooth transition to the next paragraph topic. After I have identified the numerous paragraph topics, I then develop at least three supporting details for each. If I do not have at least three I will change the topic of the paragraph or provide details from similar topic. By having at least three supporting details I am then able to provide a sentence for each detail so that the reader can have a more indepth understanding of the topic. Once I have my brainstorming chart completed with my topic information and sub-topics I can then begin to write the body of the essay, From here I am able to write the introduction and conclusion to tie the essay all together. As a result of writing the body first. I can easily summarize everything that I have just composed in the conclusion paragraph since it is still fresh in my mind. Lastly I will write the introduction paragraph so that I can focus on finding the right words to draw in the attention of the targeted audience. After completing the introductory paragraph. I can then create my …show more content…
My ideal editing process does not alway have to start immediately . Usually, I wait to wait a day or two to check my paper for mistakes allowing my mind to be fresh with new idea. .There has been situations when I am short on time due to the approaching deadline. In this situation i want to assure that I give myself enough time before I look at my work again. I do this timed process because if I was to read the assignment immediately after I had finished the first draft would not look much different then the second draft. By giving myself some time to regroup I can review the essay with some different ideas to rephrase my thoughts. Once I am done editing my paper, I may ask someone else to take a look at the second draft or review it myself. In the end, I make any corrections need and assure that I have placed the correct citations in the proper format

First I make sure to fully grasp my prompt. Personally I like to read through my prompt a few times. When doing this I look for three things: What is the reader supposed to gain from this, in what ways can I deliver the information, and ideas that come to mind right away. By knowing what the reader needs to know, I will be able to focus on getting all the correct information and research to give to them.…

I need to structure my writing time better: planning my essay before I begin writing, keeping an updated copy of my outline on hand, giving myself interim deadlines, and allowing plenty of time for editing. Planning time to edit after writing will especially improve my final papers. Making better estimates of how long writing and editing will take is a skill that will develop the more I write on the block plan. I need to do more preplanning of my papers. This should be both outlining the paper beforehand, and working out how long I have to write my paper.…

The reader does not understand my situation, so to be detailed in your writing gives them an opportunity to understand. Even though the skills of shitty first draft, outlines, and using concrete details have heightened my writing, I still have a lot of room to learn more writing techniques to become a better writer. Being able to go to EWRT 1A, I would have the chance to learn more new skills that I could use in the class to improve on providing my future readers to be satisfied with my…

I also fixed the problem I had with not giving support from other authors to back up my point. Each of my points has a quote and explaining how that authors is helping me. One significant revision that I need to make is I need to move my quote up my paragraph more so the reader can read that first and then agree faster. I also need to combine my second to last paragraph with my conclusion. I need to do this because I am just repeating myself over in two paragraphs and almost having two conclusion paragraphs.…

Limiting myself of time will not allow me to examine my ideas or rewrite my essay more thoroughly. It is necessary me to introduce myself to revising and rewriting; getting into the habit of looking at my essay over and over again rather than assuming that it is already good enough. I also need to practice understanding the prompt and doing what it is asking instead of sitting for hours, wondering what other ideas I should write about. I must always assume that my writing can always be improved; it can always be rearranged or even taken out…

Prewriting was the next step in the rhetorical analysis process that prepared me for the structure of the essay that would follow. Outlining had always been something I would skip when it came to writing essays; although after reading about the importance of prewriting and finding that thesis and topic sentences were priority on drafting worksheets, I reconsidered. On the prewriting step of Henry and Little, I started by narrowing down my options for strategies and rhetorical devices to use as supporting evidence (Appendix D). From both Henry and Little’s speeches, I found a strong strategy used by the two was the rhetoric of their tone; therefore I decided through the prewriting process to compare their development of tone through their uses…

I understand what I need to write about, but just do not know how to start it. However, what has helped me with my writing process has been setting up a draft in which I write down what I will talk about in each paragraph. Also, peer reviews have helped me so much with my writing process. I like having my peers read over my essay and give me feedback.
