Personal Narrative: My Experience In My Writing

Everyone has a special gift that is unique to themselves; it can be kept a secret or shared with others. When it comes to writing, there are different aspects involved in creating a meaningful literacy piece: inspiration, revision, and creativity. On my free time, I enjoy writing poetry and reading a wide variety of poetry. However, I did not always enjoy writing, especially writing poetry, because I did not believe in my ability to be artistic with words. I came to realize that the reason I disliked writing was because I struggled with grammar and punctuation. To this day, I still struggle to write an error free paper; however, I have noticed an improvement in my writing after I learned a few things from writing poetry. After creating a basic rhyme scheme and observing different photographs of the sky, I noticed a diverse range of mistakes that needed to be corrected before my poem could be submitted. I remember spending hours trying to figure out a way to accurately describe how the sun moves throughout the day. I struggled to illustrate how clouds and precipitation impact the beauty of the sky as well. There were many instances when I wanted to give up entirely; however, I pictured this poetry contest as a way to challenge myself and try new things. After multiple revisions and endless hours spent finding the perfect words to express my thoughts, I finally submitted my poem to be judged. Since then, I began to enter in a multitude of poetry contests because of how I realized I enjoyed writing poems. I now have a better understanding on how to reveal my ideas through poetry and it has become a pleasant way to pass time and think creatively. I learned a valuable lesson when it comes to writing; there is always room for improvement. More than once, I rewrote my entire poem, hoping that this time, I was satisfied with what I wrote. The revisions and extra time I spent making my poem as excellent as I could, helped me improve my writing skills. It also taught me how to deal with different challenges that can lead to a plethora of opportunities I might enjoy. I was extremely pleased with the prize of having a poem I wrote published in a
