Social Work Goals

My personal understanding of the social work profession is quite vast. Social workers are making a difference in people 's lives by helping people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives. The most important aspect for social workers in my opinion is to promote positive change. We help provide opportunities and resources for children, adults, elderly and families that weren’t there before. Social workers do what they can to assist individuals, but they also understand that the individual needs to be willing to make changes. Likewise, social workers cannot do all the work for their clients. The clients need to have the want and will to take action. Through every step a child makes I would want to be there to help and support them in their decision making. My current field placement is with Creekview Intermediate School which is providing me with many learning opportunities. I’ve learned you need to connect with the children in some way or another for them to open up to you. One way I’ve learned to do this is through playing games or drawing. However, I have recently come to realize that I am very interested in mental health in addition to school social work. If I decide to specialize in this I hope to get my Licensed Independent Social Worker licenses (LISW) and work for a small agency. Either path I choose to take I will need to further my education in social work and get my master’s degree. Education is of great value to me because I understand that my future depends on it and in that regard I take it very …show more content…
A few experiences I’ve learned through the bank would include professionalism by positively representing where you work, how to dress appropriately, team collaboration, workplace integrity, and responsibility. “People skills” and helping resolve financial problems are other talents I’ve learned through the bank as well. You always need to positively represent where you work as a social worker in a manner that illustrates that you are proud of your career. Social workers work with people on a daily basis, making “people skills” imperative. Helping resolve financial problems is one of the most rewarding things I can do as a teller. It will be a skill that I will have in the event that I am approached by a client’s family regarding financial predicaments. I’ve also volunteered for the local civic center, Richwood Green. Volunteering there has given me a different experience compared to the rest of my involvement. Instead of working with children here I work with the elderly. Working with a different age group is always a learning opportunity for me. I’ve seen that you need to be more patient with the elderly and more willing to sit back and listen to what they say. At the civic center I am working with the director to form a “Human Library” group. This is where we have the senior citizens tell a story of their life to another community member. This group will

Critical Analysis Paper #1 Question #1: Social Work and Systems Theory Social Work as a concept and a career is simple, yet difficult to define. Social work has grown and developed from the seed that is envelops social issues in our society. As Robbins, Chatterjee, and Canda state in Contemporary Human Behavior Theory (2012), defined situations within society have dictated the need for social work and advocates to speak on behalf of those who are unable to speak for themselves. My professional goal is to obtain a Walden’s Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in crisis and trauma intervention. I would especially like to work with individuals affected by crisis, trauma, and grief, and help them overcome their personal and social problems that have, without a doubt, strong negative influences on their lives. Studying at Walden University is important to me, because this school will give me the knowledge and skills that I need to help people make the most of their own abilities, develop skills, and empower them to reach their goals. In the future, after gaining more knowledge and experience about mental health, I want to create mental health service agencies across the United States that will help the…

I knew I wanted to become one of them but it wasn’t until I became an adult that I truly understand what the job entailed. I want to be able to listen and help the clients get the resources they need, and overcome the problems they are facing. I want to be the kind of social worker that people trust and want to talk to, not talk to because they have to. I want to form a relationship with them and get to know them so I can help each and every client as best…

The role of a social worker has many interpretations, but I believe a social worker is someone who provides vulnerable people a sense of support and understanding, while supplying them with a safe environment that promotes openness. A social worker promotes this sense of openness and support with individuals that are in need of assistance by, not only developing a personal connection, but also approaching each situation empathetically. These approaches are important because as a professional within the social working field you must treat each individual differently, providing different courses of action that would best cater to the individuals involved, in turn helping families stay together in a healthy union. Social workers provide…
