Hi Hye Jin Sim, I have the same opinion with you. Learning Resource Center (LRC), which is one of the departments in Cypress College has a lot of benefits for students such as printers, computers, tutors, and more. Students who do not have computers can use computers in LRC whenever you want. In addition, students who study ESL or English can meet tutors in LRC for help. For example, I often meet ESL tutors for help to correct my essay.…

Juneteenth are the oldest know celebration commemorating of the ending to slavery in the United States. Back in 1865, it was on June 19th that union solders, led by Major General Gordon Granger, Landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the Executive Order. The surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.…

Eritrea is a small country located in East-Africa. It is usually confused with Ethiopia, a fatal mistake to make, as Eritreans did fight Ethiopians for their independence. They are very patriotic people who value culture. Their survival was only possible due to their strong idealistic principles. Everything from shopping at a mall, to visiting the Red Sea has norms and values that seem rather strange, but the strangest of them all is their gniddew traditions.…

Mary Beth Stevens suggests writing supports reading by asking students to draw upon common knowledge and thinking processes (2014). In the Texas Treasures Literature curriculum students continually respond to text through writing activities. At the end of each section they record their responses by writing a personal response. These responses require critical and higher order thinking skills because students answer open-ended questions and utilize summarization, inference and interpreting meaning skills. This allows students to explore their own thoughts and make connections to the text.…

In order to put some of these bias’ to rest, more research needs to be done. Studies and evidence needs to be present in order to help everyone feel comfortable with the ideas of foreign-born people coming to the United States. Educating others will be one of the key components in order to help with assimilating and get everyone on board in wanting to help make assimilating easier for New Americans. On top of educating everyone, I strongly encourage other students in the community to reach out and look for programs to see the resources available for New Americans.…

For decades America has been a refuge for those hoping to escape their country or start a new life. They advertised the nation as the land of opportunity and a melting pot for those seeking to come to America and find a new life. They welcomed immigrants by sharing their language, culture, and way of life. Nonetheless, not everyone was eager to forsake their culture and traditions. Generally, if immigrants do not assimilate, they continue their traditions, blend their original traditions with the new one, or create an all new culture.…

    6. Students with English as second language: Sometimes a class may have a bilingual student where English is not their mother tongue. This student may need extra support to understand the meaning of words or what is expected of them. If they are particularly bad at English you could provide things such as flash cards and labels on items to help them learn. You could also encourage some more extrovert, friendly, 'wise' students to befriend them to help with their…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…
