When I think about my presence on the internet, I think of my social media accounts, things I have accomplished and things I have been apart of that could show up when you searched my name in a search bar. For my rampages site I took into account the various articles we looked at, what my other social media accounts looked like as well as past assignments that I could relate to this assignment, so that I could make the best decisions possible to write a solid explanation for my decisions. On my rampage site I tried to keep my site professional, but as well as a little personal. I included personal and professional pictures of me as well as information about me, some of my academic works, as well as my track and field information.

“Do Be thoughtful of your username”, was the first one that would decide if my page was going to be professional, or personal, so I chose to be professional in that aspect and make my username simply my name. The second one was “Don’t only talk about who your are.” I took that one into account when I was making the menus,m so I decided to not only have ad about me page but to also have a page dedicated to focus inquiry that reflects my writing skills. Lastly, Izadi’s last do was, “Do be authentic.” I accompanied that by having pink, grey and white as my color scheme and a fun outline for my page that I thought reflected some of my favorite colors and …show more content…
I decided that I would try and dip into a little bit of both for most of the content of my menu’s. I thought about Jeffrey Rosen’s article “The web means the end of forgetting.” Rosen’s article talks about how people have posted things on the internet and it has affected them in their jobs, pursuit of degrees and even traveling to another country. The article also claims that people nowadays, because employers and anyone can search up your name and find things about you that, “What people seem to want is not simply control over their privacy settings; they want control over their online reputations.” But, Rosen says that things like this are unrealistic, he also inserts a very important point in the article saying that, “ The truth is we can’t possibly control what others say or know or think about us in a world of Facebook and Google, nor can we realistically demand that others give us the deference and respect to which we think we’re entitled. Rosen’s article made me take a step back and look at my other social accounts to see how someone would perceive me off of things I have already posted, like pictures and status updates and how I don’t have control over that, but since I’m creating this article from scratch that I have a chance to kind of change how someone views me if the

When I first heard this year’s theme, “Standing Up in History,” the first thing that came to mind was the Holocaust and WWll. Remembering a book I had read a few years back titled “The Boy Who Dared” by Susan Bartoletti about Helmuth Hübene, the youngest person to be sentenced to death by the Nazi Regime, I immediately began to research other people and groups who stood up against Hitler. Soon after that, I stumbled across Sophie Scholl, a young woman in a non-violent resistance group, and began to investigate her and the group called “The White Rose” (german translation: die Weiße Rose) who between the points of summer 1942 to February 1943 wrote and published 6 leaflets about the wrongness of the Nazis. By this point, inspired and immediately…

In more pathological cases, you see a narcissista person who can’t tolerate the tarnishing of his or her self-image that not being liked represents, and who therefore either withdraws from human contact or goes to extreme, integrity-sacrificing lengths to be likeable” (145). Technology is allowing its users to build and maintain a certain reputation online that is either different or less fragile than the one they possess in reality. The circumstances under which these reputations are upheld are ever-changing, which leads to the variety of ways users manage their reputations. In an article by Mary Madden and Aaron Smith of the Pew Research center entitled “Reputation Management and Social Media,” they point out that “while some Internet users are careful to project themselves online in a way that suits specific audiences, other internet users embrace an open approach to sharing information about themselves and do not take steps to restrict what they share” (N.p.). The anonymity the Internet and social media platforms provide enables people to conceal…
