Moving here was not easy, I learned that my grandmother is a hoarder. It became hard trying to stay focus and motivated in school especially with the uncomfortable circumstances at home. However in the 8th grade through high school, I discovered I was very interested in acting thanks to one of my teachers who introduced me to the art form. Eventually, I kept myself busy with outside school programs like the "Youth on stage" All Stars project and Harlem School of the Arts Hsa Theatre Alliance Company. I even skipped out on my birthday plans when I turned 18 for a special performance of "The Colored Museum" by George C Wolfe.…

I ran out of church to Nanny’s black BMW, sat in the front seat and began playing Dogs on my Gameboy. Soon after, she came, started the car, and began driving to her house. I was born on September 14, 1999 in Providence, Rhode Island. A few minutes later, my identical twin sister, Jasmine, was born. My parents married shortly after the pregnancy was discovered, and lived in the rough ghetto of Providence with twin babies for about a year. My mother decided to join the Army to escape the environment we were in and to hopefully give us a better life, as neither of my parents had gone to college or had steady jobs. My father had a background in New York City and understood very well that a good education and environment was important to success and avoiding a life of crime.…

As my senior year recently came closer to an end, it became more clear that I was more unsure than ever as to what I wanted to do in life. School was not something I enjoyed and the thought of furthering my education taking random classes without knowing what I wanted to do seemed depressing. I decided I would enroll in the community college near my home in Alabama and get started on some basic classes. About a month after graduating, I was talking to my mom and she asked me what I wanted to do for a career. Still depressed and feeling anxious about the subject, I told her I really just wanted to go to cosmetology school.…

Others see it as a person who uses their creative energy and unleashes it for others to enjoy. To me, the true artist is someone who is able to control their creativity and use it to contribute to the greater good.…
