Communications is a major that is often broadly categorized and potentially overlooked due to the fact that it is quite flexible and jobs in this field are widely ranged. This particular study does indeed fall under a wide umbrella of career possibilities and routes in which can be taken by a communications student. In reality, this major is not only the focus on enhancing a simple life skill however, it is much more. It is the elaborate discipline that analyzes how messages are interpreted through the political, cultural, economic, and social dimensions of their contexts. I have always been curious how viable and successful of a career path studying communication would lead me to. The way we communicate with others is a skill that will always need to be growing and will always need to be effective. The article says that, “Studies have found that many accounting graduates still lack these competencies” (Boyle). This fact answered my question of how could I be making a difference with this choice of college major. Overall, this text makes me feel more secure in this field pathway and it substantiates that this would be a good subject for one to dive into. I think this article speaks a lot of truth and that the statistics are great resources to use when seeking out to know more information on the benefits of this choice of major/skill in general. I know this is an official piece of text as it was composed by several professors and directors at the University of Scranton. The article goes through a series of exhibits and each exhibit highlights statistics of the importance of communication skills for all levels of business and careers. This research concluded that the most sufficient improvements in communication competence were “feeling confident about oneself, feeling comfortable with others ' perceptions of you, reasoning with people, and using language appropriately” (Ford). Both of these articles come to support my question of how viable of a choice of major this specific category would be as it is profitable, substantial, and practical. Proper education in the course of communications is “fundamental to career success and the entire business enterprise” (Bardwell).
