Personal Statement: Sara Kass, BSN, RN A year ago I wrote my personal statement as a nursing student, today I am writing my personal statement as a working registered nurse and what a difference that year has made for me. Working as a float nurse, my desire, motivation, and ability to continue my education by through attending Michigan State University and the College of Nursing has only increased. I am attracted to MSU College of Nursing’s mission and vision because they resemble with my personal mission to serve my community as a primary care provider. Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, I grew up in one of the lowest rated counties in Michigan for health behaviors and outcomes. As a future Nurse Practitioner, I can help improve the overall health of my community with the help of MSU’s dedication to superior education, research, and practice.
I plan to contribute to the College of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Program both through my experience and background. In addition to a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, I also have a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Care Systems Administration. I can contribute to the classroom discussions and projects through my knowledge of human resource management, quality and process improvement, marketing, payroll, policies and procedures and other administrative roles that affect the nursing process. I worked during my undergraduate programs at Ferris State University and I plan to work part-time as a registered nurse while attending MSU part-time. Continuing to practice nursing while going to school will give me more experience and knowledge to build on and bring to the classroom discussions and projects. Through my two Bachelor’s degrees, I have gained great time management skills while will also help me be successful in completing my Master’s
