Parker Palmer says that he believes burnout is a result of trying to give what we do not have within us (49). He also suggests that we harm ourselves and others when we do this (50). This is definitely something I have experienced in my life and something I do not wish to return to. Hybels shares a profound statement during his own self-realized season of burnout; “The pace at which I’ve been doing the work of God is destroying God’s work in me” (193).
