My Personal Relations With God

I was born and raised in a Christian family. By the grace of God, I responded to God’s invitation to have a personal relationship with God in my youth and committed myself to live as Jesus’ disciple for the rest of my life. At times, life had become unbearable difficult, but God enabled me to hold steadfast on God’s love and mercy, and consequently, I have experienced God who faithfully provides for His children and His love that transcends all understanding. I continually seek to deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ and place my trust in Him in my daily life. I can testify the work of the Holy Spirit in me which transforms my heart each day. It is my desire to study at Trinity and learn to better understand God’s scripture and biblical theology which I believe will be foundational and essential for my spiritual walk with God and in my future ministry.

I had my personal encounter with Jesus Christ when I was 16. My family attended a local Korean community church in the suburb at that time. One day, the youth group pastor and some praise team members learned that I could play the piano and encouraged me to play in the praise team with them; since I enjoyed playing the piano, I gladly joined the team. The praise team met three hours prior to the Friday worship service every week; we practiced music for an hour, studied the bible for an hour, and prayed for an hour. The youth pastor, who was also the praise team leader, was passionate about discipleship, and I soon began having the one-on-one discipleship with

I have truly enjoyed taking the theological courses at TEDS and finally have decided to pursue the Master of Arts in Theological Studies. Through studying the program, I desire to gain a better understanding of God’s Words and to become spiritually enriched in my faith journey. Furthermore, the program will prepare me to serve God and others by helping them better understand God’s words and apply them in their faith lives. Just as I found the truth and peace in God’s Words, I want to be used as God’s instrument to minister to others. I had worked for Korean immigrant parents and children in a public high school, particularly with their transition to the new environment by providing the important resources and information, and had seen the challenges and struggles in the lives of the immigrants, such as cultural barrier, financial pressure, generational gap between parents and children. Moreover, while working with the pastors and church leaders, I came to understand that the congregational dynamic in churches reflects the struggles that the immigrant families experience in their lives. The local Korean community churches have been playing an important role providing to meet the unique needs of the immigrant families and to support them physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and it is my goal to share this part of this church’s responsibility and ministry to help the

Over the last few years I have heard a common concern arise regarding the stress levels of people in our country, and at the onset I initially placed a lot of responsibility on things such as technology, employers, and the demands of society. Yet, as I pondered this issue, and as more news reports and articles populated about people being their own contributor to stress, I started scrutinizing not only my own life, but also observing others. Our culture has seemed to breed the idea that humans are to glorify status, stuff, and schedules, rather than glorify the Creator of all. In the book titled, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (2006), Peter Scazzero discussed the previously held notion of crafting a rule of life, with the hopes that one…

As a young teenage girl I was always focused on keeping up my good grades, having the perfect outfit for school, and helping out at church. Little did I realize that God and I did not have a close relationship. When I entered my first year of high school I decided to go deeper into ministry by helping out in the Worship team’s soundboard because of the lack of helpers at the church. As I entered deeper into ministry my understanding of Christ began to grow and I began to help out in both the Worship department and the Youth department. The more I began learning about Christ the more different I started to become.…

The loudest voice echoes and vibrates of its surrounding, but the still small voice is a calling to the heart. After I read The Sacred Romance by Brent Curtis and John Eldredge, my understanding of human relationships with God was fundamentally altered. Humans were created to be in love with God, it is humanity’s nature that people turn their back on God. In this act of rebellion people are wounded in a concept explained by arrows. These arrows are shot from the enemy, who utilizes arrow to strike down those God loves.…

Lawston and Murillo (2009), in keeping with positions voiced concerning U.S. supremacy, denounced undocumented immigrants as criminals. They claimed that while the representation of Blacks as inherently criminal and violent was erroneous, Latinos should be viewed as violent, foreign, criminal-minded, disloyal, and overrunning the border (Bender, 2003; Escobar, 2008; Gabbidon & Greene, 2005; Hernandez, 2009). Overzealous nationalists use this type of rhetoric to justify violence against marginalized populations, including the undocumented (Goody, 2009). Anti-immigrant vigilantism aims to dictate immigration decisions and dominate marginalized people, following methods designed to criminalize and control nonwhite, poor individuals (Escobar, 2008).…

When I was fifteen years old my dad took me on my first overseas mission trip to Nicaragua. We went to build houses and provide food for people living in the slums. More than that, we went to show these people God's deep love for them. When we got there, it quickly became clear that my job was going to be hanging out with the kids in the neighborhood. I had tried to help with the building project but had developed a constant swarm of children around me that kept bumping into the not quite stable walls.…

Former Princeton University president Harold T. Shapiro believes, “All higher education institutions, both public and profit, both nonprofit and for-profit, and from state colleges to research universities to community colleges to a wide variety of technical and professional schools, serve a public purpose.” In similar fashion, Derek C. Bok comments that “All universities are prominent members of their communities by virtue of the vast complex libraries, laboratories, classrooms, and offices they require to carry on their work. Try as they may, they cannot go unnoticed by their neighbors. With their legion of students and their impressive buildings, they are all too visible to those who live and work nearby.” Like universities, theological…

How My Faith Defines Who I Am Faith: having a strong belief in a religion, or an even stronger belief in a God. I personally believe in God the Father, and that he created each and every one of us in his own image. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sin and brought us new life through his death and resurrection. In my faith I stand as a Catholic, which means I believe in only one God. However, God is three persons, also known as the Holy Trinity, meaning there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.…

All through my childhood, I heard about Jesus and I remember being about four years old when my mother knelt beside me as I prayed the “sinners prayer” and asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. I cannot say that it was the most powerful moment of my life; yet it was very significant start to my spiritual journey. This journey has allowed me to see the Holy Spirit bring Jesus alive in my life, call me into ministry, show me the works of the Holy Spirit, and become the voice that leads me every day. First of all, I was your average churched kid, creating as much mischief as the next little boy. Thanks be to God that I had a praying mother who kept me in church and showed me the value of scripture and prayer in daily life.…
