Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken falls into a greatly interesting biographical category, bellying a compelling and immersive narrative of endurance when facing adversity, supported from associated historical sources. I loved baseball growing up and I found myself on multiple teams at a time. One of the Leagues I happened to be in was the Lafayette Little League. My brother and I played here for many years and umpired as well. When I was 12 years old, I was put on the Little League all-star team. Unlike the years before on the team, this year was special because we had an opportunity, which was very slim, to go the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.…

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…
