My Personal Philosophy of Nursing
There are many factors involved in one’s personal philosophy of nursing. It has been determined that one of the most important considerations, when formulating a personal nursing philosophy, is based on the actual person who will receive care. Health is a multifaceted description of conditions; the environment in which the client will receive care is critical in the healing process as well as personalized nursing care for each client. When all these factors are combined with the spirituality of the patient, healing of not only the body but the mind can occur.
The person who is sick or injured is the basis for nursing. People not only come in all shapes and sizes, but each one comes from different cultural backgrounds. It is my belief that in order to provide the best possible care for patients, I have to provide care for the person as a whole. My patients must see me as a caring, comforting, and nurturing. I must also possess the ability to transcend cultural boundaries in order to provide the best care possible. I must also stay aware that the patient is not the only one affected by the illness. Patients have families that are directly affected, and occasionally an illness will affect an entire community. Not only does a nurse have the responsibility to take care of the patient but the responsibility must also include providing for the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and their family.
