My Personal Philosophy For Education Essay

As an educator, my philosophy for education is based upon my college work, field experiences, practicum, readings about educational philosophers and work experience. My personal philosophy is that education should be based upon a well rounded and comprehensive curriculum which meets the needs of individual students. As I complete this course and reflect upon my personal philosophy, my philosophy has strengthened and expanded from the knowledge and insight gained through course readings, discussions and philosophical theories. I’ve also incorporated a quote in the Touro College mission statement as part of my philosophy which goes as follows, "If we are not for ourselves, who will be? If we are concerned only with ourselves, what are we?" I interpret this quote as meaning that I must improve myself first because no one can improve me but myself and once I’ve made this improvement it is worthless unless I then help others. Our student populations today are wide and diverse and educators must create multicultural awareness for diversity through instruction. I hope to create a safe and nurturing environment in which differentiation is an important component in the learning environment, in order to reach each student. Collaboration with colleagues as well as working cooperatively with parents is also an important component of my philosophy.
