My Personal Leadership Assessments

Improved Essays
After completing several personality and leadership assessments, I’ve come to learn much more about my leadership style and can capture a general framework of my personal leadership.
The first two assessments that I completed were the Rokeach and CVF. My leadership style colour from the CVF assessment was yellow. As a yellow (collaborator) leader, I prefer to facilitate by encouraging teamwork and managing interpersonal conflict. Being a yellow leader, I am helpful and approachable with a concerned, principled, and mindful approach to leadership. My top two behavioural practices that reflect the fundamental state of leadership are grounded vision and authentic engagement. I am grounded and factual while also hopeful and visionary, meaning

I am very motivated by seeking reward for my behavior, but not as motivated to complete tasks that I have set myself, or sometimes tasks that others have set for me. I am very driven to complete difficult tasks and achieve goals if I know that I will earn something good or important out of it, i.e. a high grade, extra pay, etc. My score for the self-confidence test was 46, indicating that I do fairly well at recognizing my skills and abilities, and believing in myself. My main issue is that I can tend to be a little too hard on myself, which can be an obstacle as it stops me from fully benefitting from my skills and abilities. I am more self-confident when I focus on the experiences in my life when I was successful, and when I surround myself around other successful people whose skills and abilities are similar to mine. My self-efficacy score was 30. Asking people around me about my leadership strengths and what I need to improve on aligned with INFJ personality traits. Both friends and family described some of my strengths as a leader as being determined and passionate, insightful, and hard-working; however, I need to improve by being less hard on myself and to show more confidence in my …show more content…
SMART Goal 1:
My first goal is to achieve a minimum 85% cumulative average this academic year. This is a goal that is very important to me because I hope to receive the Dean’s Renewable Entrance Scholarship, which I lost last year after falling short behind the minimum 85 average at an 84.4. I would also like to achieve this goal because my average is crucial to my pathway of going to law school. This goal falls under the FSL principles: grounded and factual while also hopeful and visionary, in the sense that this is a high goal however I know that with my abilities and skills, it is something that is realistic, attainable and manageable if I put in enough commitment and hard work. I will use my current state of leadership to accomplish this goal by continuing to be determined, hard-working, and passionate throughout my academic career. Since I am inclined more towards behavioural inhibition, I am very driven to complete difficult tasks and achieve a goal like this one if I know that I will earn something good or important out of it, which in this case would be a scholarship and admission to law

The person I picked to discuss these goals with my friend Brady Shorey, he has been my inspiration in school and has become someone who I really look up to. The main reason I look up to Brady is because he has created a life out of nothing, he has worked incredibly hard for everything he has; leading to him becoming a successful lawyer, Brady had goals and dreams and through his hard work he transformed dreams and aspirations into reality. His general response to my goals was positive, the one suggestion he offered was to start now rather than waiting. He explained this suggestion by stating, “the longer you wait, the easier it’s going to become to put these goals off and forget about them.” He also encouraged me to really push myself, not settling with a lower bar, but really pushing yourself by setting high expectations for yourself.…

Leadership Style Self-Assessment 1 After taking the style questionnaire during while studying the Leadership Grid in Northouse; as expected, I found that my leadership style varies, although of the three theories discussed, more closely relates to team leadership. My assessment found my strengths to be with authority compliance (9,1) and team management (9,9). As suggested by Northouse (2012), “The 9,1 style of leadership places heavy emphasis on task and job requirements, and less emphasis on people, except to the extent that people are tools for getting the job done” (p. 79). The Team Management style is based on tasks and relationships. I consider myself more tasks orientated and analytical, while spending less time with my subordinates’ personal issues.…

Throughout this semester, the most useful lesson I learned was from doing this self-assessment, which assisted in having a clearer understanding of who I am and who I will become. More importantly, they allowed me to better understand my own strengths and weaknesses, and how to better develop them. This understanding is essential to me as a future practitioner in the events industry. In this essay, I will discuss my own leadership style as “pacesetting” based on the self-assessment result proposed by Daniel Goleman (2000). I will first discuss my leadership strengths (e.g., time management) and weaknesses (e.g., lack of negotiation skills) retrieved from the self-assessment and my daily life.…

Leadership is both a science and an art. Good leadership requires an accurate sense of self, a well-communicated vision, the ability to earn the trust of others and the capability to take effective action. In order to “build your house of leadership” your actions must inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. (Duren, Lec. 2). Throughout the semester, I have learned that some of the five Kouzes and Posner leadership practices in The Leadership Challenge come naturally to me while others do not.…
