I am a non-traditional female student in my fifties, I was born in Morocco, lived in France, Florida and now in California, I possess all the personal qualities that make me a good fit for the social work profession. I am a worldly person who lived and adapted to many cultures. I am a good listener, mature, honest, kind, and caring person. I pride myself on always being available to help family members, close friends, and even strangers. I enjoy helping other people and enjoy extending a charitable hand to people in need even if I do not know them. For example, I can be driving on the road and see a homeless person begging for money; I will open my car window and extend a helping hand with a few dollars to help ease their financial hardship. I have chosen the UCLA School of Social Work because I believe it is the best fit for my career goals. The MSW program at UCLA is an essential step in my preparation for this career. …show more content…
My parents have never been in school, none of my four siblings graduated from high school. I am the first person in my family to go to college, and seek higher education. My perseverance to go back to college in my fifties has been a blessing in my life. At this time, I am more determined, more motivated, and more focused on my educational goals than I have ever been before. At this stage of my life, I am more determined not to let anything come between me and reaching my dream and my goal of becoming a social worker.
In my personal life, I experienced the need for caring social workers when my dear mother unexpectedly became ill, and the hospital diagnosed her with stage four cancer. The doctors told us she only had a few months to live. I decided against the nursing home option
