Personal Narrative: A Career As An Assistant Coach

Great Essays
As a coach, I strive to make my players the best best they can be under my supervision and after they leave my program, both physically and mentally. I strive to make them exemplar people on and off the field, displaying leadership and knowledge for both the game and life. I strive to make a program that reaches out into the community from youth baseball all the way till players are under my leadership at the high school level. I want to instill the same value that I have for my program on the players and coaches along their journey to my program. I design my program in a way that we are able to strive on the baseball field with the ability to go out and compete everyday, whether it be practice or a game. I want our players to perform to the …show more content…
When it comes to hiring an assistant coach I look for many different aspects that I feel fit my philosophy and my program the best. The UCONN Head Baseball Coach, Jim Penders, once said to me at a convention, “Surround yourself with people who have a passion for others and use your best attitude, concentration, and effort every minute.” I plan on carrying out that quote in building my coaching staff. The first thing I look for in a coach is their knowledge of the game of baseball and how they can teach and recognize skill and different aspects of the game. It is crucial that they are able to teacher players the correct way and be able to align it with our mine and my programs programs philosophy, which heavily focuses on player development and winning. I also look for coaches who share the same enthusiasm and passion for the game as myself. The reason is if we can all display the same high levels of enthusiasm and passion in baseball, it will be visible to the players and others and draw them into that style as well. Coaches have to be able to put in the effort to get results, they have to be willing to be the first on the field and last to leave, put in work outside of the normal hours, such as recruiting, scouting, designing plans, creating charts, importing …show more content…
Our captains are first and foremost to be leaders on and off the field. They will have weekly meetings with the coaching staff to talk about how the team moral is coming from the player’s perspective of things, discuss goals and how they are doing with achieving them. They should be able to push others but, also push themselves to practice and play to the best of their ability. They are always to be positive, passionate and supportive of their teammates and themselves. Just like all players they will demonstrate the upmost respect for all coaches, players and officials. They will be in charge of hosting team nights and team events to build on the team chemistry. The captain is the example of the leader we are trying to build in all

When I arrived at my enormous new high school for cheerleading auditions, I got lost. It was June, and since classes had just ended, crowds of kids filled the hallways, and I got bumped around like I did not exist. Thankfully, a cheerleader saw me and figured that I had come there for tryouts since I wore shorts, cheer shoes and a big bow in my hair. She took me to the gym where at least sixty girls had shown up to compete. The first thing I saw was cheerleaders doing high level tumbling with no fear.…
