We made it work using hand signals, nods and a little laughter. This woman’s experience resonated with me because I too have experienced what it feels like to be an outsider and not be understood. After moving from Germany to America at age 7, I couldn’t fathom why kids thought I was strange and didn’t want to be my friend. As I got older however, I made more friends with international backgrounds and began exploring international cultures. In college, I narrowed my focus further. With classes such as Medical Anthropology, Global Health and A History of Medicine, I have found a deep passion for the way culture impacts ideas about healthcare. I am interested in getting my Masters in Public Health because I think my experiences have made me a well-suited candidate to help the underserved. Support of these policies comes by voting, educating, and volunteering for campaigns which support and focus on the health of underserved communities. Furthermore, I am interested in the promotion of initiatives which educate the importance preventative care and accessibility to health care; as these initiatives have a profound effect on community health. Specifically, organizations like the Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved and the Grand County Rural Health Network provide resources for those in need and opportunities for community members to get involved. Reflection On Professional Organizations I have been conducting research on some professional organizations and I have determined that ASHP would be a good match for me. This is because ASHP is an organization that is heavily involved in advocating legislation to benefit pharmacists, patients, and the health care system. Some of the most important issues to me are getting the pharmacist more involved in a patient’s health care and to make health care in general more efficient. ASHP is attempting to accomplish these tasks by actively advocating legislation to meet their goals. When I do become a practicing pharmacist, my ultimate career goal will be to provide quality care to a patient whenever they are not able to consult with their own doctor.…
