Computer Networking Reflection

The overall aim of this piece of writing is to introduce students to my personal experience regarding computer networking. I have learned so far, how to set-up a small computer network, methodology (network planning and design) and selecting appropriate tools for testing and troubleshooting a small network installation. Also, I was provided with multiple information based on different types and features of components and all the topologies that are used in computer networks. What I found, a sort of the most important feature of this unit was a TCP/IP, which is a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. For many reasons, this feature is coming up all the time during this level of networking course.
What I do not like, or maybe a feature that I would change in this course is the way we are getting learned. In my opinion computer networking course at this stage is a little bit boring. We have too

The program called Cisco Packet Tracer 5 that includes every device and cable, allows you to design any of the computer networks you may need at this stage of learning, but I wish I could do this all by myself on real components. However, what was real so far is that we have been shown how to fix a broken Ethernet cable, how to cut it properly, which kind of plug should be selected for the specific cable and how to distinguish if the plug may still be used or not. Those cables may be different from each other, as there are several kinds of Ethernet cables, in order from Cat-5, Cat-5e, Cat-6, and Cat-6e. Finally, a specific tool that is designed for installing the cable into the plug only and it is called Cable Crimper. At the end of that process, you can check if the cable is working properly by the Ethernet cable tester

The best thing is that if anything needs reconnecting for a different use, all source connections are available in a single space without needing to change any cables. The fiber optic cable would be appropriate because as the business relies on the internet for more and more of their ongoing operations, they are essentially sending and receiving more packets of data. There will be running, on average,…

What are the different challenges that you need to overcome? Host Identification on small networks isn’t a problem as it can be set up with manual ways of addressing, but will be exponentially harder the larger a network becomes. Protocols, DHCP servers and addressing are a huge need if you want to create and sustain a large, expanding network.…

TCP/IP Transmission control Protocol/Internet protocol used to connect host computers on internet. First internet ARPANET was developed when US Department of research projects agency (ARPA) in the end of 1970s needed a system to share the resources of their big mainframe systems. In start ARPANET used Network Control Protocol but in 1974 TCP protocol was introduced and all pervious protocols were replaced with TCP Protocol. TCP/IP was the leader in protocols used as a communication protocol on the internet. TCP/IP is still being used as a communication protocol in network operating systems (Abbate, 1994).…

to use. These are designed for the typical users to complete normal work, normally in the school’s network they will have limitations on student accounts, for example, there are many sites that they cannot access, and their computer will only hold the essential applications (software), etc. It is very common to see Windows operating system installed in these workstations however they might not be up to date as it can be costly, hence they would use older versions of windows operating system. • Interconnection devices are a physical piece of hardware used to connect the users to a network they are connected to, some examples of these interconnection devices are: o Routers – These devices uses protocols such as ICMP (Internet Control Message) Protocols, using these protocols, routers will search and determine the best path between the two hosts to send data packets back and forth. o Switches – While routers send data packets, switches filter these data packets and then send the data packet to its destination, however it has very limited functions, it is more advanced than a hub, however it is less compared to a router.…

In the profession of IT a key component in your job will be looking after networks keeping them operational (for the users whom use the network), safe (clean out any corrupt files, check security measures, look for a virus. Etc…) and secure (making sure only authorise users are accessing the network). But first what is a network in a general meaning? A network consists of two or more computers that are connected in order to share resources (such as printers), exchange files, or electronically communicate. The computers on a network can be linked through various ways such as cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light beams.…

In particular, we covered how this model shapes and forms the key structure of all computer network communication. Covered in the first lab, the layers involved are physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation and application. The lab portrayed the flow information traffic as movement through a series of ports, similar to entering doors of houses owned by other people.…

The Internet was originally called the ARPANET, and in order to enhance the ARPANET to be enable may different types of computer networks to all communicate with each other, an open source protocol needed to be created, hence the development of TCP/IP. TCP/IP improved communications throughout the network and allowed all computers to easily communicate with one another. Another technology that helped expand the ARPANET to more users in a specific location was the development of the Ethernet. Ethernet is a coaxial cable that is still used today in many local area networks. Ethernet is highly effective in moving data from one computer to another at high speeds.…
