It is rightly said that the impressions made on our mind during our childhood remain with us throughout our entire lives and these shape us as we grow. Majority of my childhood was spent at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Quarters which is a lush green community with families from almost all the states of India, each with its own culture and heritage. While sports helped me understand discipline, teamwork and respect for the chain of command, quizzes made me agile and spontaneous. When we were taught about the generation of electricity from the burning of fossil fuels, the exhaustibility of these source of electricity took me by surprise and I was deeply concerned by the wastage of electricity. So for the science fair I built and demonstrated a photo-sensor which switched on and off with the intensity of light in its surroundings. This would translate into substantial savings in terms of both money and electricity. I was also the captain of the ‘Bhagat’ house at school and successfully led its students to excel in sports, inspired them to perform well in their exams and encouraged the students to participate in extra-curricular activities.
